Still fine here, now have 7 spaghetti squash a curin' and the boss says the acorn and buttercup ones are coming right along, pretty soon there will be pole beans. The first planting of onions is a curing as is the planting of garlic. Hot peppers are all over their plants.

Early AM is dark these days. Used to let the pup out without the outside light on at 5 AM. And no fear of smelly critters about. Now I have to turn the light on for 10 minutes and check around with a flash light to be sure she doesn't get skunked!! Crab apples be dropping their fruit and acorns falling on my head while grilling out back. Grass in the shallow water is turning brown and we've had to fish a bit deeper to find the green stuff. Summer may not quite be over, But its near!! :(

Some of the trees up on the hill have started their color change, Seeing some light color mixed with the green.

Getting right after the deck repairs, but after finding a seriously rotted beam I had to get real creative to get it out.

Takes more time to figure out how to get around the issue than to actually do it.

Working 12 feet in the air makes things interesting for sure.

One beam to replace and then I can complete this summers repairs on the tread surface.

Next spring when we get some decent weather I plan to yank out all the remaining 4 x 10's on the one end and replace them with new and also replace the upright 4 x 4 with 4 X 6 to beef up things a bunch.

I designed a custom bracket to go between the beams and the tops of the posts that will afford 4 inches for each beam end to sit on instead of the current situation of the beam sitting on 1/2 the width of the 4 x 4 post.

The little thin "T" plates on top of the posts/beam ends are just way way too flimsy.

The new brackets are being formed from 10 gauge steel.

    Definitely far better.

The new brackets will also add some lateral stability as well.

    Here are the latest pix.

Ready to yank the old beam out.

Imaginative thinking is a must when faced with working alone.

No like'm it being so high Bear is a no climbing critter and that has been the case for a number of years now. At 67 I prefer to be two feet on the ground.

Yeah, both my stoves still sitting since spring. I've had excuses out the ying-yang though. However, not so many excuses left so I need to get to them in the next couple of weekends.

A guy showed up yesterday and finished off the roof. I'm a happy camper! Most of the left side was replaced.

    roof repair side.jpg

And, while they were up there and had to have the ridge by the back door replaced anyway, I ad them put an overhang over the porch. The snow drops just inside the railing - or during big dumps hits railing and is bounced back. So I had to go out garage and shovel snow up the ramp to the door. Now I'll be able to go downhill!

Just have to paint and it will be perfect!

Mowing the lawn last night and I noticed some leaves already falling on the lawn. Scooting around Conn. today I noticed some leaves falling and a few changing. All this even with all the rain lately. Just checking the weather to see what day wifey and I are going to the Dutchess County Fair and Monday and Tuesday look like a continuation of the humid, hot cr#p though.
I'll take a few fall type days, I'm tired of sweating.
