    Quercus Alba? True white oak?? That bark looks nothing like the bark on white oak to me, or white oak around here? That close pile looks like red oak to me?

    Neighbor had some trees taken down. I got the wood and helped moved some brush with the tractor and forks. Maybe 2/3 cord of locust, cherry, magnolia and some spruce (I think.). Still got to take down the main stem of the locust.

    Look at that pile close in the pic. It could be the picture. If we had a few more close pics of the bark it would solve it.

    Darn it, I been so busy forgot about this...hell I am working OT right now...

    I did actually look at that pic and it did look some red oak....I know I did get some white oak in that storm too...

    I will get a pic today....

    I have also got white oak that's really "flakey", and some that's not so flakey...

    I agree the flakeyness off aNY given tree can be genetic to that tree, but they all still resemble each other. I do agree some have big sheets of bark that flak off and some are tighter.
