SWEET!!!!! Nice grab! $70 is a tough nail to swallow but you own it now:cool:. Spray it down good with PAM and throw it on the grill at 375 to 400 for an hour. :)

I didn't buy it. It was a bit more than I wanted to pay. I'll check back. A lot of the dealers run sales on their booths, so I'll see what happens. I'll be thinking about it in the meantime.

I agree, but if you had, it's still a nice piece just very expensive... :) I'd give about half that for it in the condition it's in. Sadly it's like "all" the collectables and antiques, since the inception of e-bay and other sites, cast prices are through the roof and have been driven up because of them. 20 years ago you could buy a pile of cast pans at a flea market for $10.00. I've seen them lying on the curb after yard/garage sales because at one time nobody wanted them.

I'm kicking myself that I didn't take a picture of the booth at the antique shop today for you guys but to me it looked pretty nice griddles, skillets, waffle makers, Dutch ovens and this set up I grabbed IMG_1484.JPG IMG_1485.JPG IMG_1488.JPG They are two separate pieces that fit together and are supposedly a set. I figured I got two different skillets deep and shallow if I never use them together.
Oh and this, it was tagged as lodge IMG_1482.JPG

I've never seen one labeled chicken fryer before. Could be an unmarked Wagner. I hope someone here can look it up and identify it. I have a similar #8 deep skillet, and it is a great pan.

    Nice scores!

I've seen chicken fryers with a lid and a handle in the middle of the lid. Are those two hinged opposite the handle?

It's not a pinned hinge it's more of just places in the castings that link together.

The top shallow half with a ridge all the way around that locks in to the bottom half

The Chicken fryer is a Wagner and it "had a lid" at one time. I have the exact one. Nice grab!!! It just so happens the Griswold fit's on it. The Griddles are starting to get scares so good score there! I don't ever remember Lodge putting the 8 on the cooking surface  but it's possible, usually they were on the back on either the handles or on one end. Does it have the "lodge logo" on the back? Either way, nice grab, the Griswold is nice find these day's. Hope the $$$ was ok.

Thanks for the info! There was another griddle with the Wagner 1891 stamping on it that looked fairly "new" to me for the same $40 I gave for the one I got. The one I grabbed seems to have both sides useable one with a little higher sides than the other and the only marking is that stamped 8 on the one side. All the stuff in the booth was marked as cleaned and seasoned, how true it is I don't know but everything looked real nice but I'm no expert. As for the fryer I gave $80 for it which I figured I was getting a deep frying skillet and a regular skillet for one price. I know it's not a good buy  but I couldn't resist and I put them to work this morning already!:D IMG_1495.JPG

That's actually a "fairly new" griddle, an anniversary edition. There were many of them made but still good piece! :). "Any pan" that is made in USA, non-marked, or any of the big 6 makers are all worth grabbing as long as you don't bleed when you buy them!. "Stay away" from any thing made in China, Malaysia, Taiwan etc... All imports have to be labeled as such. There were some Japan and German cast floating around some of the antique stores, if you see them, "grab it"! Good stuff and usually cheap.

    J. Dirt, Yes! Sadly, the prices have gone "completely" out of control because of e-bay and thats a fact! Once people started "finding" cast iron again... was so good for you and lasts forever, prices went insane. The best places to purchase cast are yard/garage and estate sales, They are generally much cheaper. I just got two, # 3 and # 5 Wagners this summer at a yard sale for $5.00 I didn't post them, was quite busy with family matters. What will happen down the road is, the bottom will fall out and things will level off with the $$$.

TD, if you ever stumble across old Japanese stuff, it is awesome! although it is few and far between to find, The real old collectable stuff was actually written in Japanese on the bottoms, Not english writing. China and the other countries hadn't imported here yet. A lot of Japanese stuff is pre-war and some brought here by decedents themselves. There is not much info on them but you can pick up a pan and "Know" it's a true good cast piece, "you'll know"!!! I have two in my mix, storage unit. If I every get my kitchen done and pull them out, I'll post them.:)
