Tree surgeon turned up to start work ready for 45 houses to be built , I sent them packing telling them birds are nesting but iv only postponed the inevitable.
But the hoarder in me went and took there wood including the good bad and ugly.
Plenty of cherry so I swallowed my pride and took it, no point me sulking and letting someone else have it .

The 27 acres across from my parents where I grew up was sold, cleared and is being developed makes me absolutely sick! I did ask about the wood and got all but 2 pickup loads so far. It's not all that cool to be processing trees you climbed in or hunted from growing up though:confused:

The only constant in life is change. And change is not always good.

Sad that you're going to lose that sanctuary, but try and hoard as much as you can from it...:salute:

IMG_9011.JPG Thanks all , I have a feeling when the wind blows towards the new site I'll be burning wet wood on purpose in my fire pit.
Once it gets going anything will burn .unfortunately for them I'll not crawl under a rock and hide

That is really sad to lose that. However, trying to be nasty won't help. No matter that it hurts, if it is their's there is not much you can do except learn to live with it. But trying to make neighbors uncomfortable is really not the way to go. Be nice.

I know how you feel; I had access to 81 hectares that was just gorgeous land; mostly forest. I hiked every part of it and saw many different wildlife. One evening I was standing on a large rock in the middle of a stream when I heard a noise in the undergrowth. A huge bobcat crossed the stream just a meter away from me; it didn't even notice me as it started on its nightly hunt. The place was sold and we were forced to move (we were renting a place on the edge of the forest). The new owner clear cut the forest; every tree was cut down. Clear cutting without replanting should be banned; for one, it causes serious erosion that silts streams and kills wildlife. At least in this type of topology it should be banned.

Yes, and you won't even be able to hide the buildings behind a fence since they are going to be multi-storey buildings. I am a country girl, I would not want to have to look out from my garden and see a high rise building. All I want to see around me is trees.

    Time to move.

I've been considering it myself. Like backwoods says, it's theirs...learn to live with it.

Just buy a big chunk of land of your own and enjoy it!

Too bad it worked out that way.

Here in my area they are talking using eminent domain to steal land for "open" spaces.

People buy half an acre build a house then bitch or act like you(me the owner) have no right to cut or run a quad etc.......

If people don't like it they can counter offer a fair price for it maintain it(post it and patrol it) and pay ungodly taxes on it.

That is not what eminent domain was for; I would fight this as hard as I could.

I hate development and loss of nature as much as the next person.

It's a can of worms, but people have the right to do what they want with their property.

There was a local farmer who payed high taxes(20k a year) to keep his land he was all haunched over from a life of physical labor 70 something years old.... as houses went in the value kept rising and rising along with his taxes. He goes to retire and sell Which was his retirement plan, the community losses it's mind and the town passes a resolution not allowing anymore developments making his property essentially worthless....

There have been historical buildings from the 1700s demolished for shopping stores...what gives?:hair:

Good Luck. As towns grow, the need for open or greenspaces rises. Citizens pay taxes and want these parks. Feds even give them grants to spend on these places. Cities either provide them, or lose the grant money along with pizzing off citizens who want a new public park.

The only thing worth fighting is the value of their offer. The way its written, they have to pay fair market value. They typically make fair offers cuz of all people, the Assessor should know what its worth.

Welcome to American government. Dont like it? All you can do is vote and attend town hall meetings to voice your opinion and hope its heard.

Yes, fight it if you can. BUT...

I'd rather give up my little sanctuary and move to a NEW sanctuary than live like this.
