I'm looking for a drill press to make some straighter holes. Used one in shop a long time ago but I didn't get the breakdown on the spools on top. Is this where the belt sits? Whats the function of sizes? I appreciate the help.
See that diagram on the underside of the top cover? Adjust speed by moving the belts to their appropriate positions.
The different pulleys allow you to change the "gear ratio" to suit your present needs. When the motor end pulley is larger, the drill bit will spin faster. When the chuck end pulley is larger, the bit will spin slower. The material you are drilling into and the drill bit size will determine the optimum bit speed and thus the best location for your drive belt.
