This summer has been busy but I've tried to get some wood when I have an opportunity. The boys topped off the wood shed. There is 5 cords in the shed. While they stacked I split some left over Ash. It was a pain to split, one end dry, the other wet and plenty of knots. Nice workout. Later in the week I hauled some maple that had been cut earlier this spring. It was on a hill so I brought it to the flat area for splitting. Last but not least, I spotted a Red Oak log near my friends house. He sent me a text and had dragged it to his barnyard for me. I still have at least two Ash and one nice Elm to cut and split for the 19/20 burning season.
Good job for sure.....been too hot for wood gathering here. Tomorrow though it is supposed to be a high of 72, tonight mid 50's. Meeting one of my cutting buddies at an old couples house from church that we have helped before. 8 to 11 or 12 on a log pile. I ask her at church Sunday, how's your firewood ? She said slow, Joe can make 3 cuts with the saw then needs a break and she can split but doesn't run the saw.:stacke:
Yes, this summer has been wet. I have been considering building a bigger shed just so I can split and stack and not touch it till it's ready to burn. When it's dry out I don't have wood shed ambitions.
Good job on making firewood in the summer! I have a hard time doing any firewood work until it cools down a bit. Next month is September, ah....
I'll start covering the wood for this year this weekend, we're in for another four days of rain starting either Wednesday or Thursday.
I love the cooler months too. Wood cutting season overlaps with squirrel and deer season, plus I like fall rides on the motorcycle, my wife won't ride when it's colder than 50 degrees so we try to ride together in the warm months. We average 10K a year on the bike. Plus that pesky job that I have interferes with my personal life. My dad always said "there isnt enough hours in a day" now I understand.
That's hard to do here since it can get so dang wet in the last 5 months of the year carrying to the next 4. Hopefully a shed can be built for ya and put it out of your mind.
The pile of maple finally got split and moved out of the woods. I finished loading my truck with some Ash so I had a full load. I have some more Ash to cut and split then I need to focus on a Oak that needs my attention. One of my boys helped out today. He got tired of waiting for the old man with the slow splitter so he had split some by hand. The truck is loaded.
Your son looks like he's about ready to jump into the ring with some gnarly rounds! Nothing beats a capable helper, especially when he's your boy. Good stuff!
Me as well, highs in the 70's and lows in the 40's all week, I'm smelling Fall, time to get revved up.
