I keep my splitter in the barn and have to pull it across the yard to my splitting and stacking area. I was thinking about making a dolly that'd look something like the front half of a kids red wagon with a ball hitch on top to make it easier to pull around. Has anybody built something like that? Thanks.
I had one like this from Harbor Freight. It worked but it was underengineered and flimsy. You might want to spend an extra buck or two to buy a higher quality example than the one from Harbor Freight.
A friend of mine made one from a snowblower. He removed everything but the frame, handle and wheels. He drilled a hole through the frame where the engine was and mounted the ball there. It worked quite well.

I got 2 dolly with a ball on them.. mine and 1 I made in shop class for gramps 30 years ago.. great tools especially for those with smaller city lots.. gramps had a 4 by 8 trailer with only 3 foot tongue damm near impossible to back up without jacknife.. like it to move splitter close to rounds keeps horizontal splitter level during use
CT... Find an old steel hand truck and weld a 2" receiver vertically to the flat, size it to be 5" shorter than the tounge height. Weld a ball to the top of the receiver. When you tilt the hand truck back under the tounge it will act just like the other trailer Dolly's previously mentioned Sent from my Pixel using Tapatalk
Thanks guy. You know I thought about the garden tractor idea but forgot about it. Guess that's the cheapest route and takes up the least amount of space
This one's more fun than any tractor. 2001 Kawasaki Bayou 250 It's in CT as well. Now that's a 2wd one, but you can get a 4wd 300cc like mine pretty cheap too, unstoppable, built like tanks, and will be always worth what you pay for it, so long as it's running.
Harbor freight trailer dolly user here. Works well but if you want to spend extra and buy a beefier one it wouldn't hurt. It works fine for what it is.
l use this dolly\log mover mostly to get my splitter into and out of the back corner of the shed. It works well for moving the splitter. It does all right for moving big rounds to within reach of the hoist I use for lifting rounds onto to the splitter (in the right conditions). I like to split my rounds in the woods before bringing them home. This contraption takes a lot of space coming and going and is a booger to load, especially when fully loaded with firewood.
