I have heard Husqvarna is going to start manufacturing chain rather that rebadging the stuff they have yet. Anybody know anything about this? http://rermag.com/supply-side/husqvarna-invest-us-159-million-chainsaw-production-facility From the article: Husqvarna Group this week said it will invest in a new production facility for manufacturing of chainsaw chains in Huskvarna, Sweden, where the Group already manufactures professional chainsaws, brush cutters and trimmers. The Group will also invest in expanded capacity for manufacturing of cylinders for two-stroke engines for chainsaws in its facilities in Nashville, Tenn., and in Huskvarna, Sweden.
Read about it a while back. Article implies they will be up & running in 2015. More competition is a good thing
One would hope at introduction a price reduction to instill brand defection from existing lines would be in order.
I think your woodstove is leaking fumes in your house causing, good, but delirious dreams about future price decreases... on anything... We can only hope...
Well do you have any suggestions how a company can attempt to gain market share quicker than dropping prices? For example when I checked on rolls of Stihl RSK one shop quoted $399, another $325 and the last $319 so don't tell me there isn't room to move price.
Bandit, I didn't mean any to take any offence to your suggestion of Husky lowering prices. I certainly hope you are right. Just seems to me that everything is on it's way up and not very often things go down, even if it means they can sell more chain and position themselves better in their markets. I just have had a flood of things going up recently that has jaded my opinion. Mark
Howdy Mark, You can't offend me, I don't have enough attention span to be offended. My two cents: Right now Stihl loops at a dealer are much higher than loops of Oregon, but rolls of Stihl chain are pretty close in price. So there is a big margin they have to work with and all comes to marketing. Stihl's high price for loops is they are simply charging what the loop market will bear. The roll market is entirely different and is made up of people who use a lot more chain and will change depending on price, hence the Stihl roll price is better. IMHO they will give dealers a bone to move a bunch of chain quickly when this is introduced or people will not switch. Just a guess but we'll see.
When it comes out. Should be a few here to give it a good test & report back. I have several chains to use up but seems I can always use one more if it cuts fast & stays sharp longer RS.
It would be refreshing to see Husqvarna bring something new to the table in the performance area. Have we perfected chain to the point of which it cannot be improved? Dimpled drive links while interesting, really don't do anything to make the chain cut better. I don't mind the pricing on Stihl chain, not at my dealer anyways. I usually don't mind paying for the best performance, unless it's excessively pricey. In reality, I don't use enough chain to realize significant savings buy switching to a cheaper brand.
More a good topic around the fire to Discuss than anything . When the chain competes with the popular brands, then it'll be time to take a closer look
Since they will put it on their new saws, it will immediately have a good chunk of the market. How good it is remains to be seen.
