So while I've got the mill here... Figured I'd have him make the poles for my barn. This poor guy is never going to be able to leave..

I found some pretty nice ones that were standing dead or nearly so. One of the big ones did still have 1 branch with leaves. The two smaller were cut mostly to clear a path for the larger ones.

I need nine 16'ers and I figure the two bigger logs should be good for at least 8 of those. They were both twin tops after 17' or so, and some of the branches may be worthy of consideration if I need 1 more. There's a few more decent standing dead in that stand as well if I do come up short.

B/L is exactly what you want for those pole's! Square up your slabs and save them up for a chopping board or something.

Way gooder homie. Those will make some solid poles for sure! My house was built on locust poles circa 1909 and they're still solid as a rock.

Paul had other obligations this week - I guess he had to dig a septic system. So I decided to line up some more locust to make sure I had enough. ;)

This one should save us some time though - it's almost square already. :D

That one came from the same stand as the other ones from last weekend and it was also standing dead. I put it in the same lay as the rest - basically planned it that way when scoped them all out. Anyway there was a lot of tops.

I pulled most of them out whole with the log arch so I could just toss the brush in the burn pile as I bucked them up. Hauled 2 trailer loads of loose brush from all of it and burned that as well. :fire:

Well they'd be pretty ticked about what I'm doing to the fairway!

Actually I think all but 4-5 of these trees I cut all summer were already dead. Dont worry - I'm going to run out of storage way before I run out of trees. That's what all the locust is for - I need a pole barn so I can further expand the hoard. :D

    Ill just leave this here.

    They took all the trees
Put 'em in a tree museum *
    And they charged the people
A dollar and a half just to see 'em

Don't it always seem to go
That you don't know what you've got
    Till it's gone
    They paved paradise
And put up a parking lot pole building

    :D

    :rofl: :lol::rofl: :lol:

Shawn Curry perhaps you could give us some pointers on how to grow those square trees?
