Bought this to keep myself in business with the black locust log I have to get done. This is a 2 feet wide log. 038 Magnum 25" bar. Bought it off a guy who maintains saws. He even showed me one of his custom made saws tricked out. An 044 that had housing made of carbon fiber. Big dogs and what looked like a titanium alloy bar. If only I got pix of that.

Things a damm beast I'll tell you that much. The biggest saw Ive handled is my Dad's Wood Boss. Don't know if the CC's changed but with the magnesium engine in this one, its a bit easier to handle. Actually it weighs about the same as the 026.

The chain was sharpened and ready.
Cut through some black locust rounds like they were butter. Its actually scary. But later when I need the big logs bucked, I got it covered.

Nice saw. Tricked out 044, eh? Probably a member of one of the forums. 038s are tanks, by the way. I like 'em a lot.

Actually I got back to him it was an MS460. I doubt he is a member here I mentioned I was a wood hoarder. But he sold the saw the same day I bought the 038 to a collector for $1100. I love it but its definitely NOT for small stuff. I did some testing on a few small diameter limbs. Yeah that's like putting your saw in the rocky ground, chit is gonna fly.

038 is a great old saw, lots of torque. Well built saw lots of them are survivors that have never been torn down.

Isnt the wood boss an 025/250?

Wait till you get a real saw, they start in the 70cc category and a 80/90cc saw is a BEAST!

Often when I cut wood I use my stihl MS650 for everything, including the top:eek::saw:. Just start at the top, if you end there it gets heavy by the end and is harder to keep holding vs the big logs yiu just rest it on them.

And by a member of the forums, he did not necessarily mean this one. Used that term collectively I think for all the big ones, AS, OPE, Saw Hawgz, FHC, Hearth.

Wood Boss has been used on the 028, the MS270, and now the MS251.

    That 038 Magnum is 72cc......

The 038 carried the Farm Boss title for awhile. There was the 038/038FB, the 038 Super, and the Magnum versions.
