I finally got around to assembling my MK 1 H frame sawbuck. I was able to knock it together with some scrap and a bunch of solid joints. I like the H frame design over the V style as I get more wood in contact with the chain during the entire cutting sequence. Also I have runners on the bottom of the legs to aid me in moving the thing. This should save me a bunch of time and gas.
Yes one of the disadvantages of the v sawbuck is that often when I saw it can come off balance easily. That is to say the wood can flip up after an end cut. Its happened to me when I cut limbs to size 2-3 inches across. This is fixed by extra X sections but then it makes it more awkward the larger it gets. Plus yours also gives you the advantage of cutting sections without pinching so much. The logs/limbs can roll but what you could do is make holes in the bracers that hold the log up if it is smaller and make a peg row of some kind to brace them in! This is a fine idea and make up. Happy Cutting!
The piece that sticks out at the end that looks odd is part of the measuring guide as there's marks down the side for optimum cutting length
I will let you know about the mess! It seems to me that I will be still cutting the same amount of wood just in a different configuration, and quicker.
