    The stains in the road is what I remember as a kid. The Mulberry tree was a couple of doors down from my cousins house.

    Mulberry is good hot wood. Had a farmer friend clean up some fence rows a few years back and I got all of the wood. The sparks are a bit of an issue, but the BTU's are high. Your OWB is gonna love it, if it turns out to be mulberry.
    If it's not mulberry, your OWB is going to love it! LOL. Nice load! :woodsign:

    That does look like box elder. I find that wood to be as heavy as oak when green but dries to a real light weight.

    First time I brought boxelder home I thought I was going to be splitting something else entirely. Those red streaks had me running to the internet real quick!

    I'd agree with posters who said it dries quickly. I scavenged in spring and by fall it felt like it had lost 2/3 of its weight.

    I think theres over 30 species in the maple family. I have taken a few I could swear where box elder but not a drop of red anywhere and then I have taken a couple that I thought for sure I cut a coon in half they spewed so much red sap and they didn't even look like box elder. Very strange.

    The red fades pretty quickly, too. Curious about the science behind it now.

    -edit- internet says it's caused by a fungus that I will not attempt to spell from memory.

    Yeah, that's box elder. It seasons quickly, and burns well, albeit quickly.

    17.9 mbtu's a cord. It's just fine:)
