What if you take it as-is? For a reasonable price of course. ;). This would be advantageous if you plan on using a $200 79cc 7910 top-end on it anyways. But even if their corporate bureaucracy prevents such a thing, a phone call every morning will likely do much to keep them from "forgetting" from for long. And phone calls are cheap.

Yah, I can def see HD spending $60 or more in labor/$250+ in parts to sell a saw for $300.

    MasterMech Iwould do that.
This saw is still listed as for sale on the HD used tool web listing.
Problem is I have been trying for 5 weeks now and am really not sure the saw exists other than the web listing.
They said it was there I drove to store, and it was mistakenly rented out. One excuse after another. For the last 3 weeks have called them every day 9:30 and 3:30. Left it that they said they would call me. What do you think the odds are that I'll get a call? They haven't called once in 5 weeks.
    Not wasting my time anymore.

I tried that at my local HD before I bought my 7910. They wouldn't sell the saw without repairing it first. The tool rental manager said hd corporate wouldn't let them sell broken rental tools. Lawyers blah.. blah....:picard:

Well that's great you can find all those saws for those prices and conditions, but those are far from the norm.

I'll just leave it at that.:handshake:

After all the run-around you've gone through, maybe go rent one of those, see if you like it. Then just buy it off them while it's still in your possession. Then let corporate know what you've dealt with and get that $50 back. I dunno.

Sounds like a better program than dealing with that other , whatever it was.:picard:
    I paid 320 for mine.
Call them, make sure they have them there, go check them both out, start them up and run them, check that they have gas in them first, check it over for scuffs and scratches to be able to tell how rough it is been used, take a scrinch with you take off the clutch cover check out the Sprocket, brake, oiler.
If you can get them to take the muffler off. the one you choose to be the best,, you can check out the Piston, maybe they will do that maybe they won't
I had two to choose from when I bought mine.
Don't expect to have a great bar on it, they will give you some bar oil and a new chain though

Yep, that's probably the real deal. The new price for these from HD is $322.

I paid $300 for mine that was listed at the same $322.

That old price may not be the acceptable new price per corporate. That might be why you couldn't ever find that one you were chasing before? I dunno. Just coming up with my theories.

Take a little flashlight , if they don't take muffler off ,you can pull the plug and take a peek , I pulled the plug on both I looked at.
Take a look at the muffler screen too

Glad it worked out for you mikeward congrats! Iirc the 6421 has a more desireable coil, should you ever decide to go the rout of putting a 7910 top end on it.

    HDRock heres some more info
The two saws they had were sequential serial numbers so same age.
Both started right up and reved up with no hesitation and sounded real good
Sprocket looked good with some wear but didn't look as bas as my other saws
    Brake and oiler work.
They gave me a scrinch tool, new chain and bar cover.
This is a final sale but I'm happy with it
Now I have to find something to cut up. I just finished cutting up three big oak trees. But there's another one I could cut down
