Now, first and foremost, I do NOT want this to turn into a political punch-fest.......this is for information only.
Read it, and ask yourself "what is next"? We all know that wood is one of the ONLY totally renewable energy sources out there......properly seasoned wood and clean burning is something we all work together to understand and get better at here on this forum. We need the EPA to EDUCATE, not REGULATE people. The fact that they are "back-door dealing" with these activist groups just sickens me.........

The fact that the article came from Forbes means you can disregard it with confidence. Them Forbes rich folk burn about as much wood as I do flying my private jet into Caribbean airports where hot babes with big hooters are just begging to spend the weekend alone with me.

I put on my sarcastic smile for a moment and Xed out the article. Politics and money is what makes Washington go around, this is nothing new. I'm hardly surprised....

I know a lot of people who will not be effected by it. They know how to burn dry wood. They buy stoves made right around here by a welder trying to make a living. And they know no one is coming to their door to tell them they can not burn in their wood stove anymore. Their stove is not as efficient as the new ones. But they buy them for half the price and they keep them warm. I have always wondered why they pass laws that they have no chance of even enforcing. Educating people of how to burn wood more efficiently MAY have a better consequence. But there are more people out there who do not burn dry wood. They have been doing it for so long and it keeps them warm. Can't tell them any different. UGH!

GLO gas! You are so right, educating folks on sites like this will work before the government could even catch up.

Yes guys, I know it is a Forbes article....and NO, I'm not taking it for the gospel. But if you read the article, what's more alarming to me is the "sue and settle" tactics that the EPA is caving into.......it's all backdoor politics, and that kind of crap has not place in a free country. They pull that stuff because they know FULL WELL if put up for a real vote, it won't pass.....

Anyway, I appreciate you guys not "picking sides"....more proof that this place has the best members on the planet. I just wanted to share the article as it pertains to us woodburners. Carry on with your regularly scheduled hoarding activities!!;)

Couldn't agree more with your thoughts Scotty. So much of what's happening in our amazing country feels like we're in a parallel universe. Cash for Clunker Wood Stoves… only there's no cash… can't sell em unless they're EPA blessed… good freaking grief… now we all know why we like dropping in on this forum. It's a whole lot more interesting, important and fun than anything guvmint can scheme up… :p

Well its just part of the EPA's attempt to reduce soot pollution which they say wood burners are 13% of all soot pollution in the US.
    Welcome to our new world.

It's more than just that, Spark. If that was the case they'd target the TROUBLE areas. Instead, they are making "blanket" rules. So the rules in inner cities are to be used in rural, "off the map" locations.......

What really pizzes me off is the backdoor stuff.......something that isn't mentioned here is the loss of jobs and income that will be fallout from this for A LOT of people in the woodstove/firewood industry.

Scotty not sure what your point is, they are trying to reduce soot pollution accross the board and the wood stoves are part of it.
I was not talking about rural vs inner cities.

What I am getting at is (no offense to those that have one), a lot of the problem with the soot comes from people burning green wood in OWB's. Rather than going after a "segment" of the woodburning crowd, they blanket all of it by making the limits stricter on all wood stoves.

When you boil it all down, think about it. They want us all to burn fossil fuels or use electric for heat. There are taxes and fees for those heating methods. The can't tax your wood (yet), but I wouldn't put it past them the way they are doing the backdoor politics....
