I'm leaning in that direction more every day. Still waiting on WS info. for CTCs. I hope those are much closer than the Fireview. Smallish house with somewhat big heat reqs. makes it tougher to find a controllable stove w/o breaking the bank. I'm doing some creative accounting as we speak/type.
Good info. It really sounds like this stove can be run at just about whatever temp I'd need. Not looking for miracles, just gooder burns while using less wood.
Yup... Yup...I'm aiming at a basic black stove with the ash pan. No fancy metal work, just heat. The clearances are going to be interesting, as is the final cost that Woodstock prices the Ideal at. There were quotes of $2000.00 for the stove.
I bet the clearances come in at around 12" on the rear and sides, and possibly less with a heat shield which Tom said they were working on. $2000 is the target price I consistently heard in DC.
I'm throwing darts here, but $2000.00 for a basic stove, $300.00 for an ash pan and $300.00 for delivery, $2600.00 for a basic stove. These statements have not been approved by the FDA. If it's $2600, I'll save a little longer and get the Sirocco. 12" rear clearance is terrible, if that pans out.
The goal was to produce this stove between $1500 and $2000. As far as I know, that goal has not changed.
I'm betting there is an introductory price. $1500 for the stove + pan/shipping/antlers/coffee maker/etc. But, the greedy bastard in me is hoping the standard price for the stove is $1500 and the introductory price is $1000.
Will it have a rear heat shield available? With heat shield, the Defiant is like 6" or something. Without a heat shield, 12" isn't bad. And a lot better than the Fireview.
When I talked to Tom in DC he said they were working on a rear heat shield. I was under the impression that they expected final clearances to be quite low.
I too am most interested in the rear clearance. I need it to be 6 - 7" with the heat shield. It's only because of the space that I have available in my situation. I know they are working on keeping the rear tolerance tight.
Sorry Brian. The suggestion of 12" rear CTC just shocked me. All stoves are different and have varying CTCs, but there are plenty out there with 6" or less. No need for zero clearance. I'm hoping for the best that they'll get a heat shield made to do that, otherwise, it's a deterrent for my situation. I could make it work, but would require a jog in the pipe......don't want that. For at least a couple reasons.
Yep, but there's drywall 4" behind the face of it. Combustible. There is a 1/2" air gap between the brick and drywall too.
Just copy a pic off here, crop it down so all that's visible is the glass and dancing flames, then ask "How do you like this one, honey?" Doesn't seem like that would pass EPA tests?
In some installations with more draft apparently it doesn't go out completely. However they might eliminate some of that lower end adjustment in the production model. We got smoke smell in the house once when I burned under 5% air overnight.
"Doesn't seem like that would pass EPA tests?" Thats an interesting question, How about not turning it down that far as he is doing. You want the stove to pass EPA tests no matter what, wont happen any time soon. I guess I dont understand your question at all.
Sure, we would turn it down and run it right but the EPA test, as I understand it, require that it be idjit-proof, i.e. you can't turn it down enough to make it run dirty. Brian is probably right....the production stove will be a little different than the beta.
