2 rows with 12" ( +/- ) between them. This time I leaned the rows together & put a top cover of 1/2 splits to see if that will keep the snow from drifting the center full & maybe not fall over. 50° , wind & rain. Snow move up a little with this storm.
Nice work Dave. Eager to see if that helps with drifting. That white stuff seems to be making it down lower on the mountain, and before you know it you'll be knee deep...
It will be interesting to see if it works for the snow. I do similar to keep the tarps from filling with rain and making a lake between my stacks.
Beautiful scenery, almost didn't see the wood piles there. In theory it looks as it should work, but we will have to see what reality says.
5-1/2 to 7-1/2 cords Depends on the winter, how many below zero days & when I start & stop burning. Some years I burn 7 months, some years near 5 to 5-1/2 months. Not burning right now, 53°. High 40s at night.
Sun came out this AM when I was out splitting. Got a picture with shadows to prove it Was out for about 30 minutes, clouds & spitting rain now & then most of the day About another cord stacked. Next good weather day, I'm ready to go for more.

As always Dave, your pics are breathtaking. I hope that the stacking method works well this season. One question for ya. What is on the front rack of your Quad? I have a Yamaha and been looking for a good way to secure a Saw (I know there are Scabbards). Wondering what it is and how you secure your saw? I have a Tool box mounted to my front rack. But mainly use straps or bungees to hold saws on the back?
I think that stacking method is going to work out fine, Dave. Looks like you solved the problem. Please post pics when the snow flies. As usual, the mountain pics are breathtaking. Never get tired of looking at them.
I put a 3/4" piece of plywood on the front rack. Screws & big washers hold the milk crate on . a grove for the bar & a bungee & a bungee from the crate to the rack to hold the saw in place. The bar grove piece helps if I need to file the chain, a vice like i made for the saw might be even better. Mike change it out & make another saw vice for it (some winter day) Pics may help see how I did it.
