Hey guys, Need some advice on this. I have a HS45 Stihl hedger that has not been running right for a while now. I tried to adjust the carb again, but something isn't right, it wants to die all the time. What should I do? Buy an aftermarket carb kit and give it a try? Where and what to buy? Any advice would be welcome. Thanks
Before you go to the trouble of rebuilding/ replacing the carb ,are you sure the fuel line ,filter ,and tank vent are in good shape ,and functioning properly ? Also if it has a spark arrester screen in the muffler , check it as well .
Googled Hs45 hedge trimmer parts . Ebay has carbs for arond $12 . So, the parts for it should be reasonable .
Good advice by Nixon. I would follow his thoughts but don't be afraid to dig into the carb, just take pictures and work in a clean area so you can re-assemble. If it's had a good life might be time for diaphragms (shouldn't feel completely stiff) or just a clogged jet (carb cleaner, thin wire.). I usually buy whatever kit eBay has that will ship quick.
Could be the fuel line, just don't know. It's not the spark arrestor. I owned it for 20 years, pretty sure it's carb related.
Was just a possibility ,and easy to check . If you go with fuel lines ,filter ,and carb . Stay with OEM lines and filters . The aftermarket lines ,and filters can be dodgy . I find it wierd that AM piston,cylinders ,carbs ,etc are retty good,especially for the price . The air,and fuel filters ,and lines are basically not worth installing as they don't last . At any rate best of luck with your trimmer !
IIRC those carbs are cheap from the dealer too. (roughly $30-40) If everything else seems ok, I'd replace it without too much hesitation.
Thanks everyone! Ordered on eBay direct from China. Carb, air filter, spark plug and fuel fuel lines for $16.00. I pitched the fuel lines and bought new fuel lines from Stihl and then through the carb on with the rest of the parts. Started on the first pull and runs like a sewing machine now! Easier than I thought... Again thanks!
Yes sir it does... First time replacing a carb for me and it was easy. Better yet, my tool performs like it did when it was new....
Arbs on most old tech saws is basically plug n play. Still need to know how to tune to get it dialed in. But really antone with a saw who is serious should know how to do this.
Drain all fuel, buy new Stihl carb. It's like $30 or so. I had the same issue with a string trimmer. Also, spend extra on ethanol free gas. Problems permanently solved.
