IMG_20170703_150843_110.jpg IMG_20170703_150703_284.jpg Working on 2020-21 wood supply. A local tree service brought 6 loads for me to work on. A lot of Silver Maple, some Cherry and a load of mystery wood. Plus my cs-6700 Echo needed some work so I bought a cs-590 Echo Timber-wolf to help out with the cutting. I really like it so far, it has a lot of torque and runs great.

You might take some pictures of that mystery wood and someone might be able to ID it for you.

If the mystery wood is what's on and around the splitter, I'd venture a guess of red maple.

Yeah I looked into it more, I believe it is red Maple, dense red heartwood and white sapwood, slick underbark and a light swamp or what I call a barnyard smell.
Not too bad on the BTU's either at 20 million.

Yup. I'm almost finished working through what will stack out to an honest five cord or so from a big three stemmed red maple my grandfather had taken down around February. Looking forward to lighting 'er up!

I've never known red maple to give a bad smell and certainly not a barnyard smell. It is actually a pleasant smell or else it is not red maple.
