Hey hoarders, we have a nuisance coon here (or more, no idea). He is digging up our termite bait stakes. Suppose I could put rocks over the stakes or will just move them. I have a trap, WWW has guns. Lil one gone Sat and Sun night. I just don't want to be here if its a gun.

Eta, brought in a bag of dog food from the backseat of my truck. Nope, not the cat that stepped on my hazard lights button and drained my battery, it was that darn coon.

And Horkn , I thought Rocky was a flying squirrel?

    Starting yesterday:
Weeded 2 rows of peppers and the sweet potato row. Went to town and spent a lot of money at the Stihl Dealer. How do they get so much of our money? Bought a Kombi 110R with cultivator, brush cutter and a string trimmer that mounts to the cutter head. I only had about 15 minutes to use it last night with the brush cutter. Jury is still out on how I will like it. Plenty of power. Went to the youngest grandson's baseball game. Good hard played game. The lost by 3 runs and took 2nd in the tournament.
    Today:
We had a monsoon this morning. Drove through a lot of standing water going to the grocery store. I found 2 more logs on the ground by my log stack buried by the Canadian Thistles that I cut down yesterday. Bucked them up and now have 14 rounds to split and stack. Mashed potatoes, mushroom gravy and deer steak on the grill for supper tonight. Any tried and true grilled deer steak recipes? My wife tells me this afternoon that she had them laid out. The way I normally do them takes a 24 hour marinade.
After being chased in, the sun is peaking out. Maybe split the rounds later.

Trap coon using marshmallows and grape koolaid powder. WWW takes it down the road and shoots at his convenience. Repeat until 3 nights without catching one.

    Been basement duty all day.

Fixed 3 broken downspouts that came loose during the storm yesterday. This and some borderline grade along the house overwhelmed the sump. My BIL is going to bring his laser transit and skid steer over when it dries out to correct the grade. My yard is so flat there aren't a lot of places to drain the water though.

Basement is dry but looks like a bomb went off down there. I spent several hours replacing the shelves in one of the closets. I know for a fact my kids could have made sturdier ones than whoever made those.

Drove about 5 miles south of here and it looked like a war zone. Trees, branches, poles, lines down everywhere. At least we didn't get that wind.

It works better than anything I've found and Coons are the only critters that like it.

Just a funny- Been working on prints the last few nights from home, not enough hours in the day.

Took a break just now, went outside to catch a breath of fresh air. Gave the dawg a pet. She looked at me, I looked at her.... we both burped at the same time.
She had that Lab. "pleased with herself" look, I laughed like a fool. It was one of those special moments.. :)

Back on the prints, c-you's later.

And.....Here we go. Something got into box of chocolates delivered last evening and left on "enclosed" porch overnight, see pic below. Tonight, 3 baby racoons on the perimeter of the house. My wild hog hunting, high country pack in 20 miles with llamas for elk/deer hunting (rattlesnake/skunk/yote/you name it shooting) husband and my daughter are feeding the babies.

My neighborhood is fine, but the flooding around here is crazy. Kenosha county,Wi. I'm in Walworth county but getting around is getting difficult. A friend I work with is under 2 feet of water. Not a thing I can do to help him at this point. When the water goes down I will help with the rebuilding. I feel blessed for my family and myself.

Dog proof coon traps work well and we use mashmellows for bait. I do like the mini marshmellows at least in the bottom of the trap. The way these work is the trigger works when they pull up on it and it gets their leg. Then in the morning one shot with a .22 finishes the job.
Coon trap.jpg Just do a search for dog proof coon trap.

btw, trapping then releasing is a total waste of time as they have terrific homing instinct. Best to put them down and remember, coon do not have just one young per year; they have litters. That is why they get so thick so fast.

The results ^^^ pics as promised...
    DSCN1517 (2).JPG About 6-7' long, 5-5.5' tall, 2 splits wide (40-44")

DSCN1521 (2).JPG Wonder what killed this tree?

DSCN1516 (2).JPG A load of some dry stuff from these Ash trees for my inlaws to burn in their brand new NC30 stove this winter...

DSCN1514 (2).JPG Some construction scraps that I threw in the sawbuck to cut to length...a few minutes earlier there was a whole pile of cutoffs laying here (see next pic)

DSCN1515 (2).JPG I think the boy has been paying attention...this is where the cutoffs from the above pic went. He "stacked" them in one of my empty wood racks...I nominate him for Jr hoarder

DSCN1519 (2).JPG One of the main stacks. About 75' long x 5-5.5' tall x 40-44" wide (two rows of 20-22" long splits wide) I keep this large Oak pallet stacked against the end because the coons will knock the end of the pile down :headbang:

Kind of a lazy day. I prune the crap out of a large lilac bush last week and had the trimmings stacked up. I started a fire this afternoon and started feeding the prunings into it. Sat in the shade while tending the fire with a couple of beers. I got tired of sitting and split up a half a dozen of rounds. The fire was being somewhat contrary. Help Eric VW! I needed "Pyro Becky" today. Brush pile is almost gone now. I think the next prunings will be drug to the back 40.
At least the brush pile will be gone and some of my uglies got burnt.

Quiet morning for some woodturning. I'm working on restoring an old dining room table for a customer. The new feet will replace the old wood wheels that were cracked. The table is just loose and corner blocks have unglued. So an overall tightening up is in order. That was a nice oak firewood split.
