Occasionally have noticed dust on logs as I move them. Do you guys/gals spray your piles for bugs? If so, what works?
Yeah, I notice the dust from time to time. I'd say it's more on locust, beech, and hickory, than any other wood. I've seen the wood boring wasps recently. It's just nature taking place, I don't do anything or worry about it.
Before we Had the OWB here, I loaded the winter's supply into the basement and noticed an infestation of bugs....ants as I remember. Yes, I sure did spray the pile then! Just bought some cheap stuff from the $ store....I think it came from another country. (If I remember correctly, it was called something like DDT. Drop Dead Twice!)
How close is it to your house? Firewood is always going to have bugs of some kind. It's part of the decomposition process. They won't eat too much. I don't spray, but I don't stack too close to the house until it freezes.
Ha! That's what I tell my wife when she tells me about some random bug/spider in the house..."meh, he won't eat much"
A waste of time and dollars. The bugs will go away. Even powder post beetles, which leave lots of dust won't do any harm. Just knock the dust off before taking into the house unless you like to run the vacuum.
Use to get heaping piles of dust off of locust logs that were cut locally that i drug home. Never did find the source..
I scatter handfuls of anti-ant granules around my stacks. Whatever is on sale. I currently have a bag from Spectracide. Sent from my SM-T280 using Tapatalk
I have OCD really bad and take medication for it therefore I spray. 45 cords with spectracide termite and carpenter ant concentrate I mix up. It nukes everything. I also have a pest control company come in and do a perimeter spray around the house and shed 3 times a year, again OCD!
You got a like from me Eric VW for posting Iron Maidens Eddie! Hes not nice to look at but has been a personal friend of mine since the 80s
