There is a video of this brand of splitter, Tempest, where there is a secondary boxed wedge which turns the splits into 1.5" diameter sticks of kindling. This really creates the debris!
I saw that video awhile back, it's interesting. FB is right, lots of debris coming out of all those splitting boxes. Good to have a couple of fire barrels nearby to keep warm and dismiss the extra stufffff
Pretty neat setup, but fit for a specialized market IMO. I am not impressed by their disclaimer though. I wonder who determines on whether or not the wedge was broken in knotty wood. That warranty refusal could get ugly!
Log lifts are great but not if you have to stand on it to run the splitter. I use mine to stage rounds to split all the time. There is no way you could do that with their log lift setup.
I thought that was the case too with my processor (6 way wedge) but the small pieces it makes at times are nice for packing in the firebox or starting a fire. It's kind of a trade off of making a bit more mess and being more productive (vs a standard splitter). I still keep my "little" splitter around for doing the knarly or really big stuff. The unit looks well built but $13k for a splitter? I'm not really impressed by the smallish gas engine (13hp) and 12 gpm pump for a unit in that price range. It seems to be slow. For that price range I would expect a 20ish hp diesel and a 30+gpm pump, also the ability to adjust the split size.
