I use both as well. Propane grill hooked to the 500 gallon tank for burgers, dogs, marinated stuff. Charcoal for anything I want to enhance the flavor of. Nothing better than spice rubbed chicken parts on the grill with some wood chips for smoke. I need to get a bigger grill though. All I have is the little Weber Smokey Joe. Usually its just the wife and I if I'm cooking on that. She doesn't eat red meat or pork, so I'm not cooking big stuff usually. Love to smoke a chicken on one though!
Me too. I have and use both, a lot. After a work day, I use the propane grill for it's ease of use. Sometimes I want more flavor from charcoal, other times I want the meat or seasoning to shine through. It's also rather start up the gas grill if it's raining. One thing that charcoal isn't as good with is longer cooking times, especially with most grills. Yes you can add more, but I find you get ashes on your food. I know some grills are probably easier to add more charcoal than others. My Weber 22" kettle grill sucks to add charcoal.
Get yourself a Slow n Sear for that Weber. Makes a world of difference with no ash. Hours of cooking on one chimney full. Excellent for smoking meat too. Home Page | Adrenaline Barbecue Company
My favorite one was when Hank went to the grill-out at Khan's: "Khan, I brought you 7.5 gallons of premium propane." "No propane, I cook with mesquite. Give meat nice taste of wood." Hank replies, "well, I cook with propane. Gives meat nice taste of Meat."
I just got sucked into watching king of the hill for the past 10 minutes. I used to watch it often. Funny stuff.
We don't have a gas grill any longer. The old Weber, a Traeger pellet grill, and the Orion Cooker. They all have their place for us, but more times than not it's ol' man Weber that gets the call. I will say that for those of you that haven't heard of, or used the Orion, look it up and feel free to send me a PM if you're interested and have a question. I can't believe the flavor and cook times. Phenomenal for larger portions of meat. Well larger for a me, anyway. It's just the 2 of us. 8lb's of pork butt goes a long way! lol Disclaimer: I am not affiliated with any of the above referenced companies. I just love grills!
I like charcoal better, but still have a lot of love for the propane. The worst part of it all is we get kinda spoiled with great tasting food, and then any meat cooked indoors tastes so bland.
At my parent's old house, we had an indoor center island gas grill in the kitchen, complete with mega exhaust fan. That was a nice touch.
I use both gas on the week nights when I don't have time and charcoal on weekends when I have no time constraints. I prefer charcoal
