My dad had a couple trees and limbs come down over the weekend. He has a Husky 359 that has sat for 7+ yrs (doesn't run, carb gummed up) and a 142. The 142 runs fine, low hr saw since he has free gas and only uses these to clean up stuff along tree lines and fence lines. I took my saws over and we got things tidied up. I'll be fixing his saws. Carb, filter and fuel line is on order. The 142 will not lock in the free position. I took the handle apart. It appears the linkage won't break center when the handle is pulled back. Here is a pic I snapped last night. I can get a better pic today if need be. Note: I have the hardware in place so I don't lose it. Does the pin circled in green ride on top of the spring and "hammer" looking part of the linkage? Is it possible the plastic part is worn inside the handle and not allowing the linkage to break over center when pulled completely to the rear? Thanks in advance.
Not much help . But , if you go to erlacements.com , they have the IPLs for the 142 . You may be able to work it out from them .
The silver bushing goes on first from the front (brake flag almost parallel with bar). then rotated back. Pull the black shroud (4-5 screws) and look at spring and band underneath. The spring must be stretched for band to be elongated (chain brake off).
Here is the extent of linkage travel with the actuator (brake handle). I removed the spring, put the handle on, pulled back then carefully removed the handle for pic.
I took it to a buddy who used to service Huskies. He didn't think this thing ever worked. There was too much interference with the orange "stop". He carefully removed material and now it works.
