Sounds like a great day Pete. And yeah, you get the right pilot in one of those little prop planes and they will thrill you as much as a fighter will.
I have been to well over a dozen airshows and the sneak attack still gets me every time, the T-birds do the same thing. Amazing that the speed beats such a loud engine. The Heritage Flight must have been something to witness

    How was the VIP treatment?

I've only been to one airshow many years ago as NAS Brunswick. Long enough ago that a F-14 Tomcat put on a demonstration. When the single came from behind, a woman in front of me collapsed.

I saw a P-51 in flight, again many years ago. I was camping at the ocean and I was sitting on the rocks enjoying the ocean view and I heard a plane flying over. Just from the sound of it I knew it wasn't an ordinary place. I looked up and it was P-51 at about 1000 feet. Awesome sight, and just by the sound you knew it had incredible power. IIRC 1800 hp Merlin engines in most of them. I don't know if that's what I heard but again, it was awesome.

I didn't know they still made that stuff. I drank it for a while. I didn't have to worry about anyone bumming beers off of me.

X2 on knowing its different from the sound-usually military. Same thing with jets and choppers.

Great that you saw that while just out and about. Last time in Brunswick, there was a stealth bomber as a static. Talking with the pilot and telling him hou much we would like to see a real display. He said that the ones that got a show was some fishermen off the coast of Maine. They had to burn off fuel before landing, so they put on a show for the fisherman.

F-35 is the Lightning II. F-22 is the Raptor. I assume you saw the F-35.

The Heritage Flight was my fav. Very moving. And yes the sound just doesn't quite make it, and my daughter loved that!

The VIP was great.....as much of anything you wanted, and the best seats in the house. I took my daughter through the C17 and she was walking around with her mouth open.....LOL. And we thanked every military person we came across for their service.:salute:

Merlin 60 built by Packard. Had a 2 stage supercharger for high altitude, and HP numbers were between 1400-1700 depending on the altitude.

Glad to know our equipment is working well and keeping the bird in the air.
