    Because we have sand here and not crushed rock! I did haul in a load of stones today and will get some more. That takes care of the base then the sand works nice on top.

    Yeah, but Red Oak gets my attention. It does remind me every time I handle it, just how heavy it is. Especially in the spring.

    I couldn't agree more. Handling wet oak is like handling a lead weight, its only a matter of time before I pinch my finger. I'm naturally used to the drier lighter woods like doug fir so it seems to "roll" better in my hands in the stacking.

    I did that a few years ago. Pinched the first finger of my right hand between 2 small oak rounds when the rolled together. Broke the tip in 3 pieces. The Doc wanted to pin it. Nope, just splint it I said, it takes twice as long to heal if you cut it. So he did and it worked out fine other than the finger tip gets cold easier than the other fingers.

    It is rare to find a man who hasn't got a finger pinched when handling wood.
