Get a goat. Old wives tale, goat eats poison ivy you drink milk=better imunity to poison ivy!!! And less ivy!
Man I wish that was true about immunity and the milk. I'd drink gallons to be immune from that nasty stuff
Not to hijack the thread, but what is everyone using to wash the PI oils from your skin after touching this sheet?
Yep.Done right after coming back to the house. Also some quick Clorox bleach spray followed by more dish soap and plenty of water. Keeping my fingers crossed.
TecNu. They have a couple of different products, one is the wash to use on clothing and your body after exposure, and the other is an anti-itch relief spray once you've already broken out in rash. The info that I was reading says that it kind of depends on what your sensitivity level is to poison ivy. If you are severely allergic, you need to get it washed off with a poison ivy wash within 15 minutes of exposure, but if you don't get that bad of a reaction you can still have a safe zone of up to a couple of hours before the oils bind to your skin and you get the rash.
I seem to be a rare species. I can literally roll around in it and it does absolutely nothing to me. My wife on the other hand gets it pretty bad, I've seen her eyes swell shut from it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Nice thread. It's a battle here. Best advice I got was on FHC. ..Thistle? Or maybe others--- buy cheap clothes and toss them after you've been into it. I get cheap gloves and toss those if i have to handle it. The oil stays on everything and if you know it's on the gloves it's safer to bag em and toss em. Regular Roundup will work, but there's always a chance of regrowth. If it's in your actual yard mow short and target spray.
Even though it's the same plant, we refer to the climbing stuff as the "vine variety " and the nasty ankle-height plant as the "ground variety. "
I scrubs the affected area with rubbing alcohol and then use cold water (because hot water tends to open up the pours of your skin to allow the oil in) and dawn dish liquid and a old rag!
I'm glad we don't have poison ivy down here. It sounds like nasty stuff! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Its not fun. Itchy and burny. Really irritating at times. And not everyone gets it. It's more like allergies.
I take the string trimmer to poison. I might get a couple bumps from it. The funny thing is my mom is alergic to it like the OP.
Ive used the Tecnu as mentioned above. Ive been using Rainbow brand cleanser and if I know Im going to be around it I also use thier ivy block. Works well.
In the past I would get hives and rash from poison ivy, but get over it immediately when I treat it. Last Monday l got in poison ivy when picking up firewood on our run to see the eclipse. The next day I had two places on my right arm, which I started treating immediately. Now, a week later, it has spread to both arms plus my chest and stomach. This is not at all fun. I am beginning to think I may have to go to the doctor. Any suggestions?
Poison ivy, doesn't spread , but the oil does if you don;t get it scrubbed off . Depending on the amount of oil you got on ya, smaller amount can take longer to pop out This has worked good for me Zanfel: Poison Ivy, Poison Oak and Poison Sumac Treatment - Zanfel Poison Ivy Wash - Zanfel Laboratories get it at the drug store , follow instructions to the T Where are the clothes you had on ?
