It was 18 degrees this morning with a strong wind, Sugar Maple is warming the house.

We brought the last of the good hardwood (we'll use this year) in yesterday, it should last us through this cold stretch.

Back to burning what's in the Cherry stack after this.

Wind is crazy here too. Waiting and hoping it will calm down so I can go cut some wood. Bringing some wood into the house now. On a break.

How are the trails for the sleds?

I went walking through the woods yesterday. What a workout! The snow is still very deep in many areas. Up to the top of the knees in some areas. And I now break through easier, all the way through, down through the ice. If I go in today I am not going to bring the tractor into that deep stuff.

The trails for the sleds are good, with this cold weather and the 1-3 inches of snow coming, they will be real good.

It looks like Wednesday & Thursday will be our coldest days thsi week, we'll be burning both the Liberty with the Pellet Stove those nights.

The sleds were good buys for us, it allows us to use the Woodlands all year long an they do a great job keeping the trails packed down. Next year we plan on making some Maple Syrup so the sleds will come in handy, if we need them.

Start looking for a used sled, there should be lots of them coming up for sale, your kids would love it.

I have thought about that. But I have a few other things that take priority first. Barn for Bobcat is a must. I have to fix up the existing trail around the property, then cut one long new trail through the other side so we can start using more of the property. That is going to be a lot of work. But that's okay, I enjoy it. Eventually a couple of used sleds would be nice.

Yes, the property will keep you busy but well worth the effort to keep the trails open.

That's the big thing that was done on our property, all the trails were there so it's just a matter of keeping them open.

Last year it was May (the night of the school budget voting) we had our first bad wind event, we'll see when we get hit first this year.

I went in the woods to see what it might be like to cut a bit, but the tops of the trees are swaying back and forth, and that means I leave. :D Too many dead trees in this woods to be in there with wind blowing them around. I'll see what it is like tomorrow.

Headin into the mid teens tonight and colder evenings coming. Have some big cherry and red elm rounds burning now. Locust and red oak on tap. I'll probably burn mainly locust, red oak and sugar maple the rest of the week.

8 degrees this morning, that Sugar Maple sure warms the house.

We have a - 25 coming on Thursday night, that's the windchill reading. We're all ready for this up coming cold wave, the Pellet Stove will see some action on two or three nights.

I was out working for three hours today. Temps ranged from 14 to 18F while I was out..no real wind, for a change. I didn't get cold, and to my surprise my hands were not cold. Then I got thinking...35 degrees warmer than it was all last month. Spring is coming.

That sounds just about what I had here Sherwood. Maybe a few degrees warmer in the low 20s. I enjoyed it. Except when I hit a rock with the saw.

Couple weeks ago when I had both saws pinched in the same log I wanted to hit my saw with a rock.....that's almost the same isn't it.
