That guy and his wife are building a post and beam/timberframe house at some point and learning everything they need to know along the way. Evidently, he learned some of the wrong things about burning.
Gotta give 'em at least some credit, since they quit their "normal" jobs and moved out to the middle of nowhere to get away from all the madness. They kinda' jumped from the pan into the fire though. Uh, no pun intended.
Most people that talk about doing that won't ever have the nads to make it happen.

True I wouldn't call them chicken. Just calling yourself an expert by posting YouTube videos when you just started isn't fashionable. Its like posting that aerosol can in the wood stove and actually thinking that would be fun.

I don't know how Youtubers make money, but if they don't post vids, they don't make anything.
I think he jumped the gun a bit with that vid. I'm subscribed to their channel.....maybe I could make a couple suggestions, re:firewood and stoves.
A little knowledge can be dangerous.

    Yep, same here.
I knew diddly about burning firewood when we moved here. Luckily, I'm a slow learner.
    Uh, wait, that's not right.
Luckily, I'm a slow learner. Dang it.
    Never mind.

I've been following his off grid adventure. I loved the first year he tried to burn wood where he mentioned some time around September that he hadn't had time to get his wood cut yet. Around the time he made that "tutorial" he had sourced some slab wood but even that wasn't dry. He has a newer and upgraded stove now but it is still a very old smoke dragon that he is trying to use and his wood is still wet. To me it looks like he is on a 3 month plan, not a 3 year plan. I admire his guts going out like he has but on many subjects he is a complete amateur and I think wood burning is one of those.
It was a joke watching him try to turn Alaskan mill slabs into dimension lumber using a skil saw. He was using a chalk line and running the skinny side of the saw base on the slab. Then it was measure the width and run that same side on the slab in the other direction. He never did catch on that the big wide base would be a lot easier to control and clamping a guide board to the slab would let him make straight consistent cuts. A lot of what he does is done the hard way like that.

Supposedly they get 3,000 views and YouTube starts sending you checks or something like that. Id want someone to make good videos from this site and post them. A picture only goes so far. Some do post their videos here, I like an instructional or something like an ID input then a video bank can be made and we can have some fun.
