image.jpg At the campground for the week and they had a tree service come and drop trees. I've never had wood so easy. But not sure what it is. I did get 2 loads.

So the other 10 loads that are laying here I guess I should get then? All standing dead and when the dropped the trees all the bark fell off!

That looks like standing dead ash I have - bark falls right off when dropped and blondish under neath. Not sure in your cash

Knowing your location would help somewhat, but from the look of the grain and the bark (and how it behaves when dead), I would say you have elm. Bark is wrong for oak or ash, so is the grain and color. I bet the stuff is heavy, no?

Yeah, I still think it's elm. If you were in, say, New Mexico I'd change my guess.

That's lookin like red elm. I've got a couple cords of it. Even with hydraulics, it can be a major pain to split.

Red Elm is my vote. Looks exactly like what we have in Iowa. Can be a pain to split, very stringy!

Elm or Ash, either way it makes good heat! Take what you can.

White oak was first in my mind when seeing the bark. I don't know if I've ever seen it completely shed it's bark like that? I know red oaks will. Bark pic looks like white oak to me, stacked in bed picture looks like elm? Should be clear when we see some splits.
