And we had one last night. Lots of rain, which we needed. Lots of lightning, which was very pretty. And some wind, which always helps suburban scrounging. AND no reported injuries or property damage. Got a call from a road crew this morning. They had some cleanups in the area, am I interested? They did mention that the first one was a red oak.... Always interested, where? About a quarter mile from my place. I'll be there in 15 minutes. When I got there there were rounds stacked in the street. I started to load and they came over with an excavator. They rolled some rounds into the bucket and moved close to the truck. Since they are not allowed to actually load a private vehicle this was as close as they could get. We filled the bed with rounds. Then they split 5 rounds and we put them between and on top of the rounds in the bed. When the truck was full enough for public streets I headed home. They told me where they would put the other trunk in the Department's Maintenance yard. Now I have something to go get tomorrow. I think I have a reputation as a hoarder... KaptJaq
Them splitting the rounds was a sight to see. The excavator operator grabbed a round with the scoop, stood it on end, and wacked it with the teeth on the scoop. He made it look sooo easy... When I spoke to him I asked why they could not actually load the pick-up. I told him the way he handled that piece of equipment I would have no problem with him just dumping the wood in the bed. He told me that a few years ago an operator did load a pickup. A couple of days later the Department got a bill for damage done to the truck. The owner said that they dented the floor of his bed. He didn't know the final outcome of that event but knew the operator and assumed he did not dent the truck, he was a real pro... They have been told since that they cannot go near anybody's truck unless the owner has a release on file absolving them of any responsibility for damage. I know there are a bunch of dents in my bed and they are just from loading rounds by hand myself. Maybe it was one of those Fords with the aluminum components that dent when you walk on them... Hey you go, download this waiver and print it, you can change the wording if need be Liability Wavier
For a waiver to be accepted in this town you have to go to the town lawyer's office, tell him what it is for, he prints the proper one, then you sign it and have it notarized... KaptJaq
So.... the operator, using hydros, split the rounds vertically, not horizontal. Hmm interesting ~smile~ Sent from my SM-T280 using Tapatalk
