Good evening, ladies and gents! I feel like I've been away from here for way too long! Between health issues and working obscene amounts Of hours I just haven't had the time to work on farwood a whole lot let alone post anything. ( excuses, excuses) I am still clearing out dead ash, a lot of them are already half punky now and not worth it but I've been trying to drag them out and pick through the good stuff. I'm also still working on all the trees that the sewer project had left piled all through my woods and there is no real end in sight. Started a new cube this past weekend, so far it's some shagbark, cherry, red maple, sugar maple and of course...ash. At any rate, it's nice to be back in action and it's nice to be back amongst you fine folks! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Glad you found your way back and it appears you've been really busy as that is a nice stash of wood. Some nice stacking there too. Hope the health issues are all behind you now too. As for the working hours, that seems to come onto most of us from time to time and for some, all the time. Some of our ash is also turning punky and we knew some would never get to the stove even though we gave a lot of it away. There was just too much of it. Sad...
I think he meant the stuff that's still laying in the woods. If it's stacked off the ground and top covered you're really gonna have to work at it to turn it punky. It could probably be done, if it was in a swampy spot and perpetually covered in weeds. Coating it in a sugary solution regularly might attract some carpenter ants to take up residence, if you can keep it moist enough. Even then it could take a while. And you'd be really crazy even by our standards.
I read Dennis' input on another forum from about 4-5 years ago( I am not a member I just source search) and was searching on punky wood. Being that it is punky, its not gonna throw the heat but unless the damm thing is compromised, stack it. Wood has the hygroscopic tendencies to it especially when rotten. So best that stuff gets in the burn pile not for indoors. Just less mess in the house.
Thanks, dennis. The health issues are definitely not behind me I was diagnosed with Crohn's disease, so it's been a rocky road learning a whole new way of eating and knowing what will flare it up and what won't. I do have it under control now..for the most part. As for the ash, I'll never get it all. I still have atleast 50 standing dead and most have been dead 5+ years. I've also given many loads of it away as I simply can't keep up with it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
