My logic may be flawed, but ear injury will ALWAYS happen when running a saw without protection, so I always protect them. Eye injury is catastrophic and often permanent, and happens easily, again on the always list. Chaps and boots - great idea, I should wear them always, but they are not as compelling to me as the first two. I wear them about half the time, depends on what I am doing, I should wear them more. Helmet, I only wear when felling.

I believe I read a statistic that stated the lower extremities were the most common place to be cut by a chainsaw. I know I have had a couple of close calls myself. Caught my jeans a couple of times and the saw was idling down at the time. I was amazed at how fast a sharp chain can go through things other than wood. Safety is no joke for sure.

Another thing I do is if I am going to carry a running saw is to put the chain brake on; otherwise, I will cut the saw off; depends on what I am doing. I may be over cautious but I don't want to get hurt; like if I need to step over the tree; to me that is an instance where I am more likely to slip or fall, so the brake goes on. Putting the brake on and off does not take that much effort and adds to being safe when using the saw.

Those look like mine. Meaning the chaps, nothing to do with Floyd ...

I wore mine today, and noted a frayed spot where I probably have hit it with the saw. No memory of that.

2 years ago, I was on the last few pieces of wood to cut and I was real tired, it stopped the saw before I was aware of what had happened.:jaw:

Probably reinforced why you wear them eh? I was out cutting in thick brush last night and really found them to be an advantage when powering through the thick stuff.

I like the bugz goggles that can be bought from baileys, madsens etc. They are great for running a saw or a weed eater when the wind is blowing. Or just for protection.
