So you already thought about sticking a "broad" under yer jack? It clemcorrected in my post above your quote....
Is that one of those new air bag jacks? Hey Eric, you said "farm jack"...you mean a bumper jack? A bumper jack (or some call it a hi-lift) n a piece of chain would probably work too...
First try and it worked great! Very slow though . . . Then I remember I had a drill . . . Much, much faster! Thanks to all who made suggestions, especially ironpony and Loon
Farm jack (high lift jack) is similar to a bumper Jack, but taller and way more heavy duty. That's what I use for pulling stuff out of the ground with a chain and anything else that it will work for, jacked up my stove to get it on the Hearth with it.
I think my elbows and shoulders would give out before Popeye showed up! And I think I will use my truck jack (scissor-type) for most of the remaining pieces. The little hydraulic jack was handy, but the scissor jack moves up and down w/ lots fewer turns.
I have 2 floor jacks, but the terrain is too rough and uneven, and they are heavy. I'd have to lift the jacks into place and I don't want to work that hard (it's hard enough as it is)! Either the hydraulic or the scissors jacks are much easier to handle. Most of these rebar/pipe pieces were used to build up steps and retaining walls, so only a few are in level ground. Every time I mess with these stakes I cuss the previous owner for using wood instead of rock.
If your really thinkin about buying a farm jack , consider the HF doesn't have the other adjustable foot on top for stretching fence or spreading , that's why I didn't buy the HF Got mine at Tractor Supply they have a different brand now , same thing and It's on sale now $44.99 Bulldog Farm Jack, 48 in. - For Life Out Here You could use the pipe wrench set up and pop them buggers out real quick
I saw that one and really like it, so your recommendation pretty much seals the deal. My TSCs here list it on sale for $59.99, still affordable and worth every penny, I'm sure. One question - will a piece of 1" plywood, say 2'x2', work for a base? I'm kinda cheap, and want to save $25.
Yeah , I paid 60 bucks for mine. You don't need that extra base , that's for jackin up your 4x4 in the mud. I have used 1x pallet wood , pieces of 2x6, 2x10 I pulled T posts out with nothing but the regular base. Lube up the mechanism good and be careful, hang on that handle , don't let it knock your brains out
