I'm sure someone's got one they like! Any recommendations for one? I'm in the market for one and if it has the capability to work on other types of engines as well (down into the 350 rpm range) would be a plus but if not at least a saw specific type one would be great.
This is the one I have , recommended by other members , works great , Easy Replaceable 9V Battery , I have never used the wire hook up Can be set for single and multi cylinder engines, 2-cycle and 4-cycle TECH-TACH TT-20K Tachometer
I like this one. $85 factory direct. Handheld Tachometers | Design Technology, Inc., Home of Tiny-Tach
I see those both say something about wireless operation. Do you just hold it against the saw somewhere?
Yeah, they are wireless, you don't have to touch the saw , just hold it near the spark plug ,about 2-6"
Cool! I've got an old one that you hold against the motor and turn it which pushes a little wire in and out and you watch it and stop when it twitches the fastest
Mark me as another vote for the dti tech tach 20k. It's done it's job well and stood up to my less than gentle handling.
We run the 20k in the shop as well. I bought one for each mechanic. They have held up great to daily use.
We sure are great at spending each other's money! Thanks for the info guys just ordered the 20k right off the link HDRock posted. I'll have to try it out and post up some videos of the outcome can't wait for it to show up!!
That right there is enough for me to get one. I'm not very gentle with much of anything darn hands have a mind of there own
Yeah, that place has good price What else can we interest you in , a new saw maybe Bounced mine across the deck , no problem
I was going to get a new saw yesterday!!! Bbbuuttt the a/c died in the house so saw is on hold for a bit
The tech tach mentioned above is a decent unit. Definative Dave sells them. Im using a Stihl tach and has been decent. I have a buddy that has a Works connection tach mounted and he likes how quick it registers and saves the highest rpm reading.
Came yesterday in the mail! Ended up working a 24 hour shift into this morning so snuck in a nap and just went out to play! It seems a bit temperamental as to where you can hold it when using it wireless, but right against the recoil cover seemed to be the sweet spot since the coil is right there I assume, If anyone had some input about that? Anyway kind of neat to see where the saws were at i tested them in a big silver maple round so all saws were full bar length in the wood and it's about 87 out right now too if that makes a difference (idle-WOT-In cut) 372xp xtorq 24" stock maybe 5 tank fulls through it 2800-13200-9800 +-. This saw seems to like to pull down into between 9800 to 7800 and even sit and pull hard at 7800 55 Rancher 16" muffler modded, port work, carb limiters removed 2700-12500-10000 This saw I bought new in 2004 and has been my go to for ever it always had a 20" 3/8 bar on it and I never had any complaints with that set up but now with the little 16" .325 it's kind of fun even leaning on it she never dropped much from 10000 Echo 330t 14" muffler mod, carb intake mod, carb limiters removed, half key timing advance 2700-12800-10000 this little saw has always been doggy til I played with it now it's not to bad. All in all I guess I haven't been toooo far off just by ear although I tend to stay a touch on the rich side blipping in and out of four stroking at WOT and cleaning out in the cut. Thoughts?
For tuning I err toward the rich side too. I've had good luck with my 20k holding it by the spark plug in addition to the recoil cover.
