Went to breakfast, dodged the rain showers/pourdowns and decided to hit a few garage sales on the way home.
Picked up some good fishing gear for the grand kids to play with that cost me near nothing.

Gotta get these boys "edumacated" about the solitude of fishing and the joys of catching something that is yummy to eat.

Camping and catching your breakfast is a real treat that I have not experienced in over 40 years.

Get the fire going and then wet a line.

Clean the little beggar and toss it in the pan.

Still, there may be a burn or 2 left, Ya never know these days

Rules are open in most of the classes. Most of the rules are on the lures you can or cannot use. Otherwise Line, Rod and Reel are of the anglers choice.

Way cool bud! Congrats to her and the proud parents!! :)

Joey and I hit the lake today. Water is still a bit cold. Wind was tough at times, But we managed many of this size. Old' slow poke in the back got a beast on, But didn't get a good hookset and it came off at the boat. So it no count!! Big fish was a draw at 1.5 pounds.

congratulations. The boards. those can be very intimidating. When I took them, they were two days long. Then when my daughters took them, it was like a hour in front of a computer. Your daughter did really good.

The restrictions on the lures makes sense.

Again, I never gave much thought to the tournament fishing.

    Whatcha use for a boat.

1000 hp blown gas drag boat to get to the HOT SPOT ??????

I have seen some of the bass boats and they are way cool pieces of machinery

Boy is she correct in her assessment. I wouldn't be able to concentrate either. Growing up with two engineer parents that worked for big airplane companies (Dad with big planes, Mom with small planes), and my mother piloted small planes so got to help her study for tests and fly with her, planes and making them push the envelope are fascinating to me.

Yesterday spent way to much time in the sun pulling up all the rocks and blocks the tank was sitting on. The I dug a trench so I could remove the old gas line from the 500 gallon propane tank that they finally removed during the week (it has only been sitting there unused since last November). The dang line wouldn't pull thru so I had to dig up the entire 25' (except about a foot directly under the fence. Also had to get the prybar out to dig out a good size rock (maybe 80 pounds - I could just pick it up to move it after I got it out of the hole). After pulling the line, filled the trench back in and tamped it down,

Guy came and finished up the driveway project with hard pack and some loam. I've got to get out there planting stuff at some point soon before the weeds start taking over again. May do a bit of it this morning then work in the basement when it gets warm. I'm extremely pleased with the results - may not look like much but the mission was for convenience in winter, not necessarily beauty. Grass and plantings will make it look much better than it looks now.

Parking pad to the left eases transition from yard to driveway (used to be a rock wall along a lot of it.

Got lots of room to open doors now if I back up to the garage - or when I have deliveries!

    lots of room for truck.jpg

Propane tank gone and you can just see the where the trench was dug on the other side of the fence

Hey, forgot to tell you guys that the guy who did the driveway work for me also has a pellet stove that does most of his heating. And of course, he's a cool kid with a Harman :D.

Some of our lures weight over 6 ounces. I highly doubt what you have could handle these monster baits. Our light gear usually has baits over 1/2 an ounce. But cast them many more times than the average angler. Maybe close to 100 casts per hour?? Unless its a soak bait(a bait that has to sink and stay in the strike zone). Its cast to cover fish for a second or 2 then burn it back to recast to a different spot of the cover/structure(stump-log-rock-grass/pad). I'd say most of the burden we put on our gear is the time its got on them. And the speed we use them at.

Think street car engine vs race car engine. Your car engine goes many years where a race engine goes a weekend or 2 before its rebuilt. The street car doesn't see the load or wear a race engine does. We just flat wear our chit out faster. Your street engine wouldn't stand a chance in a race either. Its not build for the abuse and would either blow up or just be too slow to compete. Basically the same deal, Your stuff would be OK for a while. But we'd stand an advantage. Its faster, lighter and stronger.

Then the added weight/strain abuse. Try putting 2000 lbs of shells in your trunk. A job better suited for a truck. The little car wouldn't last long. Believe me, I've tried using the average stuff. Only wound up working on them or having them flat out fail when in battle. You can't win when your in the pits or with broke gear........... You must pay to play is an old saying that fits. ;)

I couldn't afford that, nor would it suite bassin.

We only have an entry level tourney bass rig. 70+ mph gets us there PDQ. Bass rigs are mainly floating storage trucks. It easily stores 22 rods and about 50 pounds of tackle. And then the live wells. We have to have the fish kept alive or you are DQ from the event if you weigh in DOA fish.

Outboards are the only way to go in bassin, I/O's or inboards take up too much floor space thats needed to carry gear. And you'd need a trolling motor up front. That motor gets most of the on water hours and takes us up in the shallows. Trim the outboard up and out of the water and you can go really shallow. We have gone in less than 2 feet of water to get the pigs.
