    Whoa.

    OK
When you're talking serious tournament bass fishing then I can see getting top notch gear

The stuff your buying is the good old stuff that was made rugged. They could stand up to our rough handling. But a bit to heavy and not much hop up parts to adjust them to the climate we take them too. Most of the old stuff had slower gear ratios and to fish our climate you need speed to get the lure back to you to cast it quickly back to the strike zone. Modern era reels of today are far faster then the old stuff........... These reels carry 8.1:1 or 9.0:1 ratios and are flat out speed burners.

Most of the reels we take out with us aren't box stock either. They have some bells added to help them take the abuse we serve them. I've posted some of my tweaks here, But not many fisher people here to take interest in the blueprinting and bearing upgrades or even the braking mods I have played with. Fun for me, But boring for others?

Got to mention my son is the field tester, Pops is the tuner. He beats the tar out of them and I patch em back up to go again.

    Waaaaaaaaaaaaay cool stuff

I have been involved in race boats, hot cars, radio controlled copters, jet skis, snowmobiles and then in later years involved in the shooting sports, most notably IPSC pistol competition.

Yeah we had race guns that were a slight facsimiles of what they started out at the factory, and stuff that was hand made for one purpose "GO FAST" AND HIT THE A ZONE.

I never gave a thought to fishing being one of these sports that got this involved with modifying stuff to go faster.

I have seen the bass tournaments with the go fast bass boats and always admired the cool boats, but never gave a second thought to the actual fishing gear being used.

Fishing for us was always a relaxing time to get away from the stress of the job and the humdrum of things at home.

Now, this said I can see how the game is played.

Do you have various classes such as "STOCK" "Modified" or "OPEN" that dictate what gear can be used ???????

    This is so interesting.

Maybe a "SUPER STOCK" pellet stove

It stands to reason that there is always a lot of room to improve nearly anything that comes out of the factory doors.

I have noticed that the new pair of reels I bought are not as rugged as the old vintage South bend pair, but the new ones are lighter and smoother in operation.

My father in law was an avid fisherman and loved bass fishing, but I never saw him spend anything like what you are talking about in the way of $$$$$

He loved watching the tournaments on TV in his later years when he could not get out any more, and I doubt he had any idea of the complexity of the equipment either.

    Waaaaaaay cool stuff

I am curious about the "beating they get" ????

Is it just the amount of casts per hour or ???
What really constitutes abuse on the outfit ???

Our stove is shutting down has I type. We are hoping this will be the end of it for us, but never really know. Lots of plants to set out yet. It has been so cold, I haven't been inspired to get it all done. The pool water was delivered this morning. Kids are anxious to get back into it. Now watch the electric bill go up. Cindy and I don't use that pool. No way for us to get in or out of it. Cindy can't climb a ladder. Where I go at the VA, they have a ramp leading in the water. Nice cool breeze here today. Got to love it.

House was about 58 deg this morning but that is exactly the way I want it as tomorrow thru Tues or Wed is going to be 90's and humid. I'm keeping the cool in as much as I can for now.

Today is about perfect, after this too hot/humid too fast for me so that pool might get used sooner than later Larry!

I did put in 10-15 tomato plants a few weekends ago. Luckily it didnt get that cold to bother them.

    Way to go!!! :thumbs::thumbs:

When my honey took her exam it was at Pease Tradeport and the Blue Angels were practicing for the weekend air show during the exam. Drove her nuts as she wanted to be outside watching instead of taking the exam. :hair:

Once done there was a comments section-"Maybe not schedule these exams during airshow practice" was what she wrote.
