Rolling my 175 lb 20" diameter 17" long monster isn't easy, but doable. A 4' one, of any wood type, would be out of my league, but no worries, none here. Rare to find many 4' diameter logs anywhere. But hypothetically , like you, I'd have to cut it down to manageable size pieces, then split it vertical . LOL
A lot of the stuff i get is tree service cast offs. Most of it is just too big to run through the chipper. We get quite a few big red oaks and pins that get real big. Some ashes but not often. Im always amazed what a peavy and a few minutes can move with some thought.
I was using my Huskee 22 ton with log catcher today. I didn't have it set up on level ground and the rounds kept vibrating off the log catcher and hitting the filter. Thankfully they were small hackberry rounds and no damage done. I think I am going to weld a piece of angle iron across that end as a stop. Anyone else done this?
For the big oaks I get 3' and over I keep a 24" piece of 1 1/2" pipe to lay in front of the foot. Lay the pipe down flop the round on end , roll into place and split it.
Not that I'll ever get one that big, but I like the idea. I'll keep the pipe idea in mind, that's a good one ! (for more than just big rounds )
44" 1000 lb Oak on an electric full time horizontal splitter with a ramp for a log lift and a pile of pallets for a table. Unless you only split little stuff, you will greatly appreciate a table in any form.
Now that;s a picture ! You da Man! Young & strong ! Would be fun to split some that big & get a big pile of split out of on round We have cottonwood that big, but no a very good firewood.
Yeah right Had only about 5 cord of that Oak and it took me a few weeks to process. Didn't take too many of the big rounds and I'd be done for the day. Hopefully it will be ready to burn next year.
I can post pics from my phone, will it just not let you? when posting a comment just click on upload the file, then camera roll, then select the image. It takes a bit longer to load but works from my phone. Also check your settings, you may have it blocked in your phone.
To the OP: I have a Speeco splitter and the log table in question. One of the bolt holes has stripped out and the table is bent slightly. It is OK but I have has some very large rounds on it. When my golfing buddy who has a welder gets back we are going to build a new one. This log table should be supported to the bottom of the and to the beam rather than a bracket just jutting out which is much weaker. When we build a new one, it will also have a lip to stop any big chunks from vibrating off and landing on the motor.
Selecting "upload" doesn't do anything on my phone. I'm not sure why my phone and this site don't like each other much?!
Hmmmmm sounds like a block on your phone, usually when a new site comes up it will ask for access to your photos. Maybe you denied access the first time by mistake. Just edited this, posted last night very late and didn't even notice I had totally butchered the spelling! Wow I was tired, but got home very late and needed to get the fire rolling so stayed up.
