Neither of my trucks clear the garage door height wise both are stock, For that matter the f350 doesn't clear the eves either. 99, 350 v10 477 rear end. its a beast. If I can get and keep traction it will move what ever. Not a daily driver at 8 mpg.

Resuming this search shortly. So much stuff going on for me that I haven't gotten around to test driving any of the trucks yet. Maybe Friday?

Until the specs for the 2018's come out, and since the 2018s don't come out until this Fall, I've got some time.

If the 5.0 v8 with the 10 speed gets even close to 24-25 mpg freeway, in 4wd, I might just go that way. The 5.0 just sounds great, and I'm a v8 guy anyway.

I'm driving a 2017 with the 5.0 now (rental) and REALLY liking this thing. Dash says 20mpg, keep in mind this truck is a rented mule. I've now had the opportunity to drive a 3.5 EcoBoost, a Ram 1500, and this truck, this is by far my favorite. I got back in my '13 Silverado 5.3l and remember saying, this thing is a DOG.  Whaddaya gonna do? :wacky:

I googled that after you posted that lastnight... Interesting reading for sure... I'm a V8 guy too or the biggest engine I can get in the vehicle ... No replacement for displacement...

talking to the mechanic.. he said the 5.0 v8 is way to go just because the engine is so easy to fix... so v6 with twin turbo needs to get much better mileage to be a contender... but I personally have always been turbo fan... power when you ask for it mileage rest of time....

I am a Ford diesel fan, have bought 3 of them. I switched to the Ram half-ton EcoDiesel for a year, and then had this current one built. In my opinion the 6 cylinder Ram diesel was underpowered for my needs compared to a Ford even with the 3.92 gear. It was just sluggish in the power department- I went right back to Ford.

I have a 2016 Ford F350 diesel, crew cab, 8 foot bed (which automatically comes with a larger fuel tank), 4x4, King Ranch trim. Then added a Pro Comp Stage II 6 inch suspension lift with reservoir shocks, and 20" Fuel wheels with 37" Toyo Mud Terrain tires.

For those looking for the F150, I would not get the smallest engine, as it is lacking in the power department if you have a load or if you need to punch the throttle. You definitely don't want to be lacking in the power department, and remember that a stronger engine operating at partial power is more efficient than a weaker engine operating at max output. As far as gears, opt for something in the middle range so you will get fuel economy and still be able to habe some oomph at the tow line. For the 2018 F150, Ford is supposed to be putting in a diesel option, which you may want to consider. Diesel engines last longer, keep more value and are more efficient in the mileage department.

The aluminum F150 seems to be working well, and the 800 pound weight reduction is substantial. Overall, I don't think you can go wrong with any of the modern big three trucks. My personal opinion is that Ford makes the best vehicle from a comfort and functional/performance standpoint. Good luck with figuring out what you want, and enjoy your new truck!!!

Height too, man the 99' F250 bed, the sides were about as high as I am tall, the tailgate release was eye level with me, only way to get things in an out was to stand on tire or bumper. The F150's are not as high, right?
x10 on parking lots, garage long enough, garage door tall enough, and tight fast food drive throughs-forget it, park somewhere else and walk in.

Wrong. The 150s are as high as the Superdutys were back then...maybe a bit taller! Recently I loaded something from a co-workers 2011 F150 4x4 into the bed of my '03 SD 4x4...same bed floor height, more or less...the sides of the bed actually a bit taller!
I'm 6'4" and can barely reach over the bed side and pick something out of the bottom of the bed! :hair:

VOLKEVIN , yes, Ford will have a 3.0 diesel in the 18 f150s. It's already in the range rovers, and another foreign car, Jaguar maybe? It's stout. It'll be better than the ecodiesel ram, which I'm not even sure if you can buy still. I know the EPA halted all sales of new ecodiesel FCA vehicles, and I'm not certain if they fixed the emissions issue that halted sales. It's been a few months. If FCA doesn't have that rectified, there's a big issue. I've done the math, and for me, the half ton diesel formula doesn't work out.

In regards to displacement, and not getting the smallest one, that's been debunked as the 2.7 ecoboost is faster, granted unladen, than the 3.5 ecoboost. Yep. It's scary actually. Blind demo rides of the 2 ecoboost has a all the auto journalists thinking the truck with the 2.7 was the 3.5. In its current trim, the 2.7 EB is 325 hp, and 375 tq. Thats impressive.
The 2.7EB f150 out hauled an Ecodiesel ram with the same trailer. Iirc they were enclosed trailers with about 8-10k them. These are not ringer 2.7s either. They all haul, very well.

The most I tow is a cord of green wood at a time, and my ski nautique. I know it's going to have plenty in reserve power wise.

The only thing that I would miss with the ecoboosts vs the v8, is the noise. The 2.7eb is quicker than the current 5.0.

I know it's not all about speed, but I don't drive slow vehicles. I also know that packing for weekend trips with a pickup and a tonneau cover will be as simple as throwing stuff in totes, and chucking then in the bed.

Being 6'4” I don't worry about the height of it.

Yes, definitely the garage height is a limiting factor, but even a Raptor fits in a standard garage. I don't need anything taller than that.

The sticker on mine was $74,000. HOWEVER, I got it "Triple Net," which is invoice minus any rebates minus all the dealer holdback. It equated to $58k. Minus my trade in, and I spent an extra $16k on it.

Oh my gosh a Datsun!!!! We had a 1981 poop-brown Datsun station wagon growing up, and with its awesome vinyl seats in the summertime I lost some layers of skin to them- ah, memories.:startled:

    Absolutely.

The bigger the sticker price, the more you can knock off of it. That's how I'm going to go as well. I'm used to all the nice options on my Audi. I won't forgo my heated steering wheel.
