Well I spent the money on this guy and me being me can't get this thought out of my head..:emb: You guys ever try this? Lift a log and cut it that is. My thought is to make a ( you guessed it ) pallet holder to lift the log right over the bed rail onto the stand and cut it up. Facing facts once I do the motor it will only get used every know and then for other stuff. I REALLY hate waste.... image.jpg

Ingenuity at work. Amarillo Slim has been thinking similar thoughts for his hoist. Keep us updated with some progress pics. I like where this is going.

I think you might be over engineering it a bit. I just roll logs onto (free and recycled) 6x6s and cut them up.

Would this be done on a paved surface? Seems like it might not roll well anywhere else, especially with the weight of a log on it.

Better than building a hoist out of Pallets! Hope you get the truck going before you play with the hoist and break it :p

Yea It might be a week or two before I get it on the road again.:( I miss my truck already! :(:( I'm lovingly swearing at it and throwing my wrench at it on occasion but it's almost ready to come out.

Engine hoists aren't really speed daemons. Would take a while....too long for my taste.

Wonder if something like these would help with the terrain?

Repurpose the hoist as a plant hanger. :)

Just don't leave it out side. The rod/ram on these hoists are generally not chrome plated & will rust easily.

I would question the amount of extra time this would take Pete.

Me too :emb: It was a fleeting thought because I bring logs home often. My back hates that after a while.

We weren't going far. And yes, it was about ready to do a face plant, but all it had to do was lift, remove the truck, and lower onto the sawbucks.

That is key! Just lift & not try to move the hoist.

If you plan to do this very often, consider making a cradle which will fit over the lifting arm & will bolt to the 6x6 block to stabilize it. Also adding some 2x strips to each side on the bottom to make it a cradle.

With you using it in a stationary location, it should work just fine.
