There's how much wood on The FHC ? Over 1,000 cord ? ?

Those container holders must be a good conversation starter, I sure do like them leoht. I think i just wish I had a bigger yard and a tractor with the pallet loader for those if Id use them.
Also heard that red gum is nice and toasty, what do you think?

 

I am setting at 3 cords css with another at least 3 in logs to be processed.

 

Id say Im at about 8-9 split, and about another 1-2 to be processed. I got behind on processing, so Ive been in a lull right now. Need to ratchet it up once I get back from my trip before it gets too hot! I need about another 4-5 cord of fast drying for 17-18.

 

I have to admit im not caught up on all this cutting and splitting so had to make a pretty general guess for the cordage.

 

Best guess is 10 cords mixed split and stacked at the house. Another 2-3 black locust at my friend Lefty's place that is split. 3-4 More cords at his place that need split. I could be way off as I have not measured it yet.

Yes & thanks, FatBoy85 Red gum is coveted in this part of the world as the best firewood. People down here talk of river red gum as you North Americans talk of oak. It's very hard and long burning, those two chunks I used last night burnt for over 12 hours.


It's also quite expensive to by Locally it's sold for $150 per cubic metre which is the size of one of my containers, that calculates out to $544 a cord. Down in Melbourne they sell it for $200/m3 that's $725 a cord.

So yea it's good wood but I don't cut it often as it is rare locally so I try to save it.

I probably have about 2 days of splitting and stacking at my slow pace of attacking it and the current stuff which has been on the ground since winter will be stacked. Just need to get it done.

Killed me to turn it down last night, but I was looking on Craigslist and saw a free add for a YUGE pile of maple that was already bucked and sitting right next to the driveway for fast loading that was about 10 minutes from me. I could have probably had a cord back home in an hour and a half, provided my shoulder was working. My stepdaughter is away on a trip, so I took her 7 month old puppy for a walk. The little azzhole pulled like a freight train the entire time, not good on my torn rotator cuff! Hurts so bad now that I couldnt even sleep.

I probably have 10 or 11 cords here, and more wood that I need to pick up but I'm not counting that till it's onsite. I'm hoping to get some splitting and stacking in next week to make room for more wood to come in.

 

if I had to choose MY oak it would be MADRONE.
So naturally firewood and then the tree. This stuff grows really interestingly. Its a very nice tree, bark peels off when it turns a deep honey red, feels like very thin potato chips. Beautiful tree in that regard. Its rare but in terms of rare it grows only on the pacific coast states and grows near the salt water more often. Not talking on the beach but gets pretty close! The fire is HOT, talking close to 31 MBTU's. Get this, it seasons so quickly you can have it down in march and burn it in November. People have been known to loop it into 300-400 a cord. But since it gets so pricy, the mixture of wood is best. Furniture makers love it.

 

600mg of ibuprofen did the trick. Drinking my cofree was a bit tricky though!

 

Don't get on much on the summer. Don't know why I have never seen this thread before but. I stay at 9 cords. That's all I have room for.

Well, I have to say, I love being retired.
I am doing so many things I never had time for, and enjoying every minute. As Dennis said, "playing around". And when I get tired, I just take a nap.
