Yes, we use it when we water and also when we plant the tomatoes. We also use Hydrogen Peroxide (3 percent) when we water or spray. Gardening with hydrogen peroxide - Mixing Charts
I did get the rest of the tomato plants planted so all we have left is the sweet basil and the one hot pepper plant. We'll plant six more tomato plants for a total of 36 plants.
I haven't been able to grow a decent onion in my ground. Is PH a factor. Our soil seems acidic. Any way to post it up now. Reg lime takes months to work.
I picked up the last six tomato plants along with the food grade five gallon buckets today but with possible high winds and a chance of hail, they won't get planted until tomorrow. By the looks of the radar, all the bad weather stayed south of us.
It's not the type of garden we grew up with but they do grow nice in the five gallon buckets. All the plants are planted, tomato 36, sweet basil 3 and 1 hot pepper plant. The last six tomato plants and one from the first batch are hardening off, the one from the first batch looked sick after being out so I put it under the eaves so it wouldn't get much sun which seem to do the trick.
The Mrs wants to know how long those buckets stay good? Or do they break up rather quickly being outdoors in the rain and sun?
I plant a few things in containers. The two plants above are the same start class of Lizzano red cherry tomato. Both went from seedling to 9 ounce container, to 1 quart container. The one on the left went into a 2.5 quart container while the one on the right went into a 6 gallon finishing bucket. Both are the same height. Both have a couple of tomatoes set. The one on the right has had an obvious advantage. The plant on the left went into the finishing container yesterday. It will be interesting to see what both plants look like in several more weeks and if the advantage affects net yields. Maybe next year I can compare equal tub sizes as the plant on the left now has a few gallon medium advantage over the one on the right.
This is our third year with about half of the food grade buckets, they were like new. We clean them at the end of the year and again before we plant. The buttoms have four 3/8 inch holes drilled in them for drainage.
Thanks Zap. We wondered. We have lots of buckets but they are getting old and most have broken up quite a bit. Some we've had to just throw out. When Judy was working in the bakery we got all the buckets we wanted but now they are hard to come by unless you lay out some greens.
I ended up getting another sweet basil plant and one more hot pepper plant which I planted today so the planting is done, all we need is the sun.
The wife put everything in last weekend, 5 different peppers, 3 kinds of maters, 4 kinds of squash, the peas and radishes, lettuce, green onions were in earlier and getting big. Asparagus is coming hot and heavy. Corn, Pumpkins, beans, and cukes aren't up yet. Herbs are getting big.
