036 Pro Stihl - Just got this in this week, didn't have any time to get any time under it. Friday night I got a couple cuts done, before night fall. On Saturday I burnt through about 2 tanks of fuel on this thing already against some Honey Locust. I was really impressed with the weight and power of this saw ( I think Dexter might have mentioned this before...). Its currently running a 20" bar with a .325 chain and a 8 pin sprocket. I really like the speed of the chain, cause those chips fly (when you have a sharp chain ).
Those are great saws, actually one of the greatest Stihl ever made IMO. You sure that isn't a 9 pin rim? I haven't seen an 8 or 7 pin .325 rim for a large splined hub. The drive tangs would bottom on the hub. Perhaps yours is an earlier saw, which may be a small spline (which would be pretty neat).
Here's it. I thought it was kinda of weird that it didn't have a 3/8". But after seeing how it runs. I think this where it's going run at, I'm satisfied with it.
Saweet! That is a small splined hub. Through some recent research I guess they came both ways, which I think is neat. You have more options at that point with .325.
Don't blame you a bit. If you like how it performs, leave it be. I actually like .325 chain pretty well, and with an 8 pin- yours would be geared closely with 3/8-7 tooth. Those 036's are fantastic saws for sure.
I really like the 036 Don't know if I ever mentioned that?? My personal favorite saw. Awesome power, awesome weight, and very good A/V for its time period. I run 3/8" either 16" or 18" on mine. It will pull a 25" if needed (w/ skip tooth). But I like the weight and balance with an 18" or less. They are great runners!! I have ran mine for 3 years now in Stock form. After 3 years, I wanted more. It's now on its way to TN!! I worked a deal with a Monkey.
I remember you saying that. I'm looking forward to your feedback on it and the 460. Did you do a MM on your 036?
Yeah, but only very recently. Had about a tank on the saw after the MM (Muff mod). Now it's getting another MM (Mastermind). Even just the Muff mod woke it up. I would suggest doubling the stock outlet hole, or adding a second port on the opposite side. They sell deflectors, or if you can find one off of an old Husq? I bought a cheap one off eBay. They are like 3 times more expensive now. I should have bought a dozen of them. On right side of can.
