3 days of catching up on maintenance. Visit with some family and friends . Hopefully rain holds off for a picnic.
Six bikes, seven kayaks, getting together with my sisters family at my parents house. While the weather is marginal, we take what we can get up here in the cloudy northeast.
clay shooter do you guys over the pond have a Veterans or armed servicemen type day like our Memorial Day?
Meh.. I don't know why but this pic of William today was pretty funny. He's a very happy boy. This pic from today just didn't accurately convey that. Mid 70's calm lake, all the boats in our bay were people we know. Awesome day, boat ran great. Beer was cold and tasty. Heck even the lake water wasn't too chilly.
Had the boys graduation reception yesterday. It was a Viking feast theme. Whatever happened to mints, nuts, and cupcakes in the church basement?
OMG, I forgot to mention that my wife made the best chicken salad sammiches yesterday for our boat day. She made the French baguette from scratch, and there were sliced almonds that she toasted in it too. She said there was cumin, and celery salt in it too. I don't know exactly everything she used to make it, but I told her it was the best chicken salad sandwich I've ever had.
My parents have a pond off of their back yard, my sisters kids (and mine) look forward to going for a paddle and exploring the parts of the pond you can't see from the house. A few weeks ago the road just past my parents house was flooded, and many people thought the beaver dam that holds the pond up much higher than it was before, but it turned out that it was an old railroad track culvert about a mile upstream. A section of the old road bed washed out, and released a flood over the next two dams. We found a new channel scoured out between two ponds, with rocks and trees In new positions. The dam on my parents pond is still standing, but I didn't see any evidence of new activity on the dam, I'm hoping that the beaver didn't drown in the flood
Thanks to the brush blasted out by the flood we were able to hack a trail and carry some of the boats up to the next pond. We were able to get near the old rail bed, but the upper dam was damaged in the flood and the water level was half a foot lower. We were stopped by an old stone wall.
The two black poles in the picture are the halves of my paddle, I was using them like ski poles to get through the weeds
Just got home from a 14 day, 2 country trip.... get to spend some time with the wife, then do lunch with parents and brothers that are in town. Then some sleep !
We're going to sit here and watch one rainstorm, after another rainstorm, after ANOTHER rainstorm roll through our area.... Did I mention it's rained a little bit? Ugh.....
