What the deal is, they are different prices in different areas, here they are 899 everyday

 

I picked up the Country Line 25T last November for $850. Wasn't all that happy with the motor in the cooler weather, seemed to be hard to start, but 1 pull was all it took last weekend when I split a cord. Should split anything you have.

 

Yours have the Koehler motor?

 

I am a fair-weather splitter upper so I don't know how mine acts in winter

 

Yes, it has the Kohler motor on it. It's also possible that the motor it starting to get broken in. I also have the Huskee 35T at my partner's place and it has the big Briggs on it. 8 Years old and still starts like a champ.
I think you will have a hard time beating the 25T

As much as I like the idea of electric, get the gas. You won't be tied to an extension cord. The money savings is nice as well.

 

I have the opposite opinion, being tied to an extension cord is the only disadvantage to electric. Meanwhile, gas engines require much more maintenance, can be temperamental, produce fumes and more noise and require you to go get them fuel. If you have electricity available where you split, buy electric.

 

Own the gas one, 799 with oil and a tank of fuel

 

5hp gas = apx 3.5hp electric, 8hp gas = apx 5.5hp electric. The kicker is the amperage draw and the cost of a 10 or 8 gauge extension cord and weather you even have a 220 v line with enough omph let alone a 110v circuit rated at 30amps not saying thats the draw amp wise but you are going to need head room or you will be blowing circuits. Another tid bit is the drop over the length of any extension cord ( added to the motor draw) hence th 6-8-10 gauge lines to handle current flow. Just a couple other things to think about.
Pump whine is going to be the same either power source- just do not notice it as much with the dino gluper spitting in your ear.

 

Real good points to consider.
It worked out OK with my 7-ton electric running on 110 with a 50' 12 gauge extension cord
