IMG_1205.JPG This load was dropped off by a local tree company. The fellow said it was standing dead beech. If definitely had carpenter ants. It's not any beech that I've ever seen. Super heavy, pretty darn hard, and of course that bright yellow colour. I'm in Southern Ontario, Canada.
    Any ideas out there?

Im wondering if you got a young osage orange or hedge. The color seems right...this one may be much older. IMG_1697.JPG

.... Ain't no Hedge that I've seen, too smooth of bark. The yellow is very interesting. If it was pinkish I'd go with Honey Locust. Any way I'll be here with some popcorn...

Is the pile in the background the same stuff?

The first pic, looks to me like Tree of Heaven. Does it smell weird?

    Nice saw btw.

If your thinking Ginko Biloba, for sure it's not that. I have one on my property and the bark is not the same. The stacked rounds in the background are not the same, but the ugly pile by the saw is all the same stuff. It does have a smell, kinda musty but not terrible.
The 362 has been great! Cold starts in 4 pulls, hot start 1 pull. Probably cut 20 face cords with it so far. I run premium ethanol free fuel and use Stihl synthetic oil. 18 or 20" bar feels right with the cc's available.

Not a chance that it is beech. More like Tree of Heaven. Does it have a horrid, wretched, downright awful smell?

Looks like Kentucky/American yellowwood. But I don't think it gets that far north

I'm pretty sure I've seen that tree growing in the city before. I don't know what the heck it is, but it sure isn't Beech. Should be interesting to find out.:binoculars:

AKA Tree of Heaven, and I concur based on the bark.

Thanks to everyone for the guesswork. I'll find out some info on the Tree of Heaven, certainly seems like a possibility. Great name.

It's an ironic name. It's a weed tree that stinks. And I believe it's pretty crappy firewood. But I've never used it. I just hate how it spreads like a weed and sheds three times (seeds, stems, leaves).
