Load of ash from a friend. I think this is the sixth load like this. One or two more to go. Got it unloaded in the dark.
I have put a lot more on it, although it is only rated for 7000 lbs total. This was primarily ash, so not too heavy. We cut and the this in in 1.5 hours, so it was just time constraints. It's small, but is perfect shoulder season wood and a piece here and there with the beech and hickory works well.
Probably 75% of what I burned this past winter was ash. With EAB, probably the same for upcoming season as well.
I have almost 7 cords of Ash. Most was dead standing. I split and stacked it last fall. I'm hoping it's ready for 18/19 season.
It will more than likely ready this winter if need be. Ash dries quickly, dead standing even more so.
I don't disagree with that, that's why I split alot of it big or use decent size rounds in my furnace.
That is true but not by a whole lot. In addition, it depends upon the stove and how much heat you need overnight at to how long the fire will last. Still, when it gets really cold outdoors in January/February, this is when we burn oak during the night hours. However, this winter we burned very little oak as the ash did very well for holding the night fires. I think there may have been 2 weeks when we burned mostly oak for nights is all.
