I used spf 50 my wife bought last year. It was like putting Sheetrock compound on. I still got burned!
I used the sunsport spf50 spray they recommended while in Mexico the other week. It works ok. Granted, early may in Mexico is pretty intense sun. For sunscreens though the best and easiest to use, since it goes on clear, is Bullfrog brand. It wasn't mentioned in this test, why I don't know. I can say it is by far the best, longest lasting, and most water proof stuff there is. I just ran out of the last bottle from years past. I see Walgreen's has it, as they didn't last year. I'll be buying some as soon as it gets warm again here. It's the bomb. Hopefully they didn't change the formula as the bottle is different. I saved my old bottle, so I can compare. As many of you know, I spend a lot of time on the lake in my ski nautique. My wife and I thoroughly test out sunscreens over each summer, and when we go on vacation.
I hate wearing that stuff. The only time I've used it or should I say the last time I used it I was in Oceanside, CA. For some reason, by the Pacific and perhaps because of some fog, it was easy to get sunburn there. Still, it was only on the back of my neck where it bothered. But I really don't like that stuff on my skin and neither does my wife so we rarely use it. But I'm blessed as it usually takes quite a bit to make me burn. However, it takes much less now than it did when I was young.
I burn really easy so I always have sunscreen handy. Any sunscreen is better than none and I don't mess around with low SPF. Usually I get banana boat. I've used bull frog. It works well and is pretty water proof but it was very greasy.
I was a red head , and I have blue eyes. My skin is pale white. I have spent and lot of time having treatments from the dermatologist who removed multiple precancerous lesions from my face and arms. No fun at all. Painful at times. Sunscreen is a must. Too bad I didn't know anything or better about it when I was young. Hard to understand why there are so many variables in the same sunscreen numbers. I don't always trust Consumer Reports. I sometimes think wining and dining can buy better reports from them.
I fall into that camp too. I saw reports years ago on cars that they rated either very high, or very low, and my actual experience, along with others was exactly the opposite. Hmm, I never noticed that about bullfrog. I'll report back when in try out the new bottle. I just know that the bullfrog goes on clear, easy, and lasts better than others when in the water.
Forget the sunscreen, I think I'll be using a coating of this on myself pretty soon....! Works great for waterproofing!
