I thought about that, but I had a hard time justifying what I just spent. It will be a while before I know the real potential of this machine and adjust to the changes. Seems to fly through everything I open up.

Ugg, Yuk and Blah even! Rather dismal fishing day(low pressure or the drop in water temp had em in a funk-AKA lockjaw~). Only caught a few dinks in the warmer shallows. But we had fun and got to test the new gear. Everything worked and we can now keep the fish finder and live well on all day. Only had to fire the motor around lunch time to recharge the auxiliary battery.

Hoping for better trips next weekend. Taking Friday off to hit a busy lake and Hoping to get Sunday in as well. Might try deep water for some Trout on Sunday? Friday might be iffy as they are saying heavy rains, Hoping we get most of the day in before we get all soggy.

Just made the replacement for the second of the two raised beds that basically rotted out last season. It only took me a bit over two hours on each one, used to take 15 minutes each.

The weather is getting much much better after the early SPRING (sprinter) with snow and tons of rain.

Time time to get the garden area tilled up and ready to plant.

Sadly, last spring the tiller died suddenly with a big BANG and the tines stopped turning :picard:
We bought the tiller 3 years ago off Craig's list for $200 and it was a train wreck.

Unit is a SOVEMA LASER 100 3 point rear mount type that goes behind the "Widdle Red Twactor"

The tines were in good shape but had one missing.
The main gear box on top was fine and had clean oil in it.

The drop case (Chain drive for the tine shaft) was a 5 alarm train wreck, with water, rust and a big mess inside.

We tore the unit completely apart, replacing the bearings, seals and the chain.

The chain tensioner was in my estimation a real POS (Would prove to be)

The unit did a good job for one season and part way through last year things went sour.

I tossed the unit out of the way until the other day, then decided to tear into it and see wassssssup.

Took the case cover off and it was ugly :jaw:
Top sprocket was torn apart and the chain tensioner was chewed up (Looks like the tensioner got hooked in the chain ???? and locked the chain up)

The oil was nasty, with lottssa metal in it from the tensioner being chewed on.

Washed it all out and flushed out the bearings (Seem fine)

The tiller is no longer made (model) and parts seem to be sketchy.

    Soooooooooooooooooo.

Gonna have to build something to make things better.

Did some sketching and measuring and decided to make a chain idler bearing assembly to sit on the "NO LOAD" side of the chain.

Went with a fixed mounting rather than an adjustable.

The #60 roller chain is not going to stretch all that much.

Scared up a piece of 2 inch shafting and tossed it in the lathe and set to whittling on it.

Made the little part with a 2 inch flange on the back and a stub shaft to hold two ball bearings.
Gave it a snap ring groove just to be sure the bearings stay put.

Drilled a hole through the unit to bolt it to the case with a 1/2" flat head Allen bolt and a nylock nut.

    Sweeeeeeeeeeeeeet.

Looks like a winner, but only time will tell.

Bolted the cover back on and added gear oil.

My Son In Law has the tractor this weekend so gotta wait to try it early this week.

At any rate, the bearing chain idler is light years better than the POS that was there, and far stronger too.

    Here are some pix

At any rate we are still way ahead on the cost of the tiller.

Probably about $600 total invested, which is a fair piece cheaper than any new ones.

There is a daul port usb 3.0 unit that can take 2.5" and 3.5" Sata drives. But you likely have a free port and space for another drive or two inside your case I have used one of mine don't feel like fighting with small screws and spaces anymore.
