Well, this week I finally said yes to some wood being dropped off. It was Oak, how could I say no? I have been sitting on at least 10 full cords, and still no stove to burn in. I figured I could fit in some Oak... three dump loads later... KIMG0021.jpg KIMG0022.jpg KIMG0031.jpg KIMG0024.jpg KIMG0037.jpg

Once you open the door, it is so hard to close it... This was dropped off today, standing dead Maple.
Pretty sure I am super set on the 3 year plan. Gotta get on the stove part LOL. KIMG0067.jpg

I tend to do things in weird orders. It is on the to-do list for this Summer.

Here are some pics of SOME of my stacks. There is wood everywhere. Makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside thinking about burning all of it someday. KIMG0042.jpg KIMG0043.jpg KIMG0046.jpg KIMG0050.jpg KIMG0051.jpg KIMG0053.jpg KIMG0054.jpg KIMG0057.jpg

And for those who wonder where I disappear to, this keeps me kinda busy now. After spending almost two years being lumberjack-errific I figured I was in good enough shape to try out for the Pittsburgh Passion.
Yup, I was right. #22 in da house!

There have been a couple Woodstock soapstone stoves on CL in my area. I like the idea of a softer heat, if that makes sense. This past Winter, or lack thereof, we used an 18k BTU kerosene heater where we want the stove to be. At a third of the output of the stove we are considering, the heater moved heat pretty well. Cannot wait for a real stove though, and a Winter worth burning in. We literally only had 2 weeks of Winter weather this past season.

Not sure what your budget is but I'd look at pacific energy. For what I spent on mine I can say it was totally worth it

dusky, it sure is good to see you pop up again!
Keep hoarding, the stove will come in time. Working toward the 3 year plan like you are, and not burning any = certain to have dry wood... somewhere!
Backwoods Savage will be glad to see you!

Lol, yup. Have a half a cord of dry ash put up on my deck out of the weather. After I rearrange the stacks I will have more top covered.

That kerosene can't be too easy on your nose. Bought one for my dog to have out in the garage, drafty in there but it was ok for her during some pretty cold periods. Just smoky a little bit. You have some very nice stacks and that's just the beginning for you. Hope you get something good for your home as a wood burner. Im in the same place as far as the woodstove is, just need it installed and Im good to go. Good luck to you with wood rolling in!

We didn't use it often. With a new wick it wasn't too bad. Just stunk if I let it burn out, most times I turned it off and carried it outside before it smelled up the house.

    Dusky has it exactly right.
Up until this post I've only seen members gathering to burn.
    I love the hoard virtue!
    Dusky, I tip my hat!

Yeah that's probably what happened to mine. Might try getting a new wick in before I sell it this summer

Haha, I am out front sitting on my pile of dead Maple as I type this. Lately I have been sharing my hoard. I get a dumper dropped on my driveway, and I pick through and keep what I want, and put the weird shapes and ugly knotty pieces out by the road with a free sign. The free stuff is usually gone within an hour of putting out my sign. I have enough that I can be picky. I even gave away some of the Oak!

I always burn in fire pits and also cook with the wood on the grill. I started my firewood obsession via bushcrafting. I became obsessed with finding pine fatwood, and then started hauling home logs. I remember when my 1/10 of a cord pile seemed huge! Oh how times have changed.
