We are in the middle of a heat wave, 42 today. It sure has been nice seeing the wood consumption finally slow down?
Callin for 50's-low 60's by the weekend but then that "polar devil" i mean vortex is supposed to push back in. Gonna be a muddy mess this weekend and then an ice skating rink next week
It's just in time for me. This being only my second year burning, I have plenty of wood on hand but most of it could use another year's worth of sun and breezes. Based on last winter's consumption I thought I was in good shape for this season, and even gave away almost a cord of dry wood in the fall. But of course the winter has been severe. Now all the predictably dry sections of my stacks have been used up and I'm having to start picking through the marginal parts, judging each split by weight and sound. Even so, I'm better off now than I was last season when I had no truly dry wood at all.
I'm going to let the stove go cold after tonight's load. I'll pull the cat shield, check things out a bit before the next cold snap moves in this weekend.
I talked to someone near Knoxville, TN yesterday and they had 74 degrees. Next week most days our highs should be around 20 and no below zero but cold nights. Should not be that bad but 40's sound much nicer.
Am guessing it will be a cool Spring for those near the water's edge in the Great Lakes area. Will take a while for the ice to melt & the water to warm up. They might be burning well into spring this year.
I've burned less than a cord this year. 70's today, 40's tonight. Small fires to take of evening and morning chill.
I have burned 2 cords this year just a rough estimate. Until a few days ago I had a fire going since thanksgiving.
I've been loving this but it's not going to last. Thursday our forecast high is -2. It's dang near March, come on!
